Akua Donkor signs petition to free Montie 3

Akua Donkor Petition

Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Akua Donkor has joined the call for the release of the two Montie FM panellists and a presenter of the Accra-based radio station sentenced to four months in prison.

The three were slapped with the custodial sentences after being found guilty for contempt by the Supreme Court.

They had threatened to kill justices of the Court.

After judgement was pronounced last Wednesday, reactions have been mixed over the sentences. While some believe it was not enough, others have opined that it was too excessive.

Those in the latter are thus asking for at least a presidential pardon for the three – Alistair Tairo Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase popularly called Mugaabe.

Pressure group Research and Advocacy Platform on Thursday went to the extent of opening a “petition book” at Lartebiokorshie, where Radio Gold and Montie FM is located, and Kokomlemle at the Freedom Center.

The book is to get the president to “to invoke Article 72 of the Constitution to offer the imprisoned three a reprieve from this harsh sentence”.

Some government dignitaries notably Deputy Education Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Valerie Sawyerr have signed the book.

Latest to sign is Madam Akua Donkor, who is a regular panellist on Montie FM.
