Bueteem Anthony Gingong, Director in charge of Quality Assurance at the National Health Insurance Authority, has been declared winner of the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primary for Bunkpurugu constituency in the Northern region.
After a hotly contested election Saturday, Gingong polled 2,542 votes to beat four other contestants in an election supervised by the Bunkpurugu District Electoral Commission Director Lawrence Akundikiya.
He was closely followed by Dr Benson Konlan, a lecturer at the University for Development Studies who had 2,271 votes.
Jangong Tahidu, Duut Bonchel Abdulai, Azumah Konlan managed 1,066, 570, 196 votes respectively, TV3’s Zubaida Ismail reports.
Today’s election was made possible after the Tamale High Court on Wednesday ruled in favour of the NDC in a case between the party and Mr. Nanburi Derrick, a failed parliamentary aspirant for the constituency.
The Bunkpurugu constituency is being held by the opposition New Patriotic Party. But Bueteem Anthony Gingong is expected to give the incumbent MP Solomon Namliit Boar a run for his money.
In his victory speech, Anthony Gingong congratulated the other contenders, declaring that the victory is for the party and therefore asked his supporters not to make mockery of anyone. He therefore advised them to unite to wrest power from the NPP in the constituency.
The other contestants also pledged to support his parliamentary bid.
