Ghana Premier League: Five things to look out for this weekend

Matches between the two clubs have always been fierce

Medeama SC are yet to win in the group stage

The Ghana Premier League continues this weekend with some exciting fixtures across the various league centers as the race for the top spot gets tighter.

Here are Nana Kojo Afreh’s FIVE things to look forward to this weekend

  1. Wa All Stars must justify they are real title contenders

The Wa based club have been strong since the start of 2016 league. They are on a mission to making history this season and remain undistracted as they lock horns with defending champions Ashgold who have not had a very good start to the season. After losing the last time to Asante Kotoko, All Stars would be keen to prove that they can keep their title challenge going.

  1. The race for the top spot hotter than ever

Hearts Kotoko

As usual the race for the top spot slot will see leaders Wa All Stars, Asante Kotoko, Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of oak battling for points, meaning defeat will not be an option.

Accra Hearts of Oak arguably have the most difficult test Aduana Stars with just one point separating the 3rd and 4th sides on the table. The phobians host Aristica Cioaba side at the Accra sports stadium as newly appointed coach Sergio Traguil seeks for his first win in charge of the Accra based team.

Kotoko on the other hand, haven proven very strong in their away matches would be hoping to continue their impressive away record by at least leaving Tema with a point in their game against Inter Allies

  1. Relegation threat still haunts Edubiase United FC and Ebusua Dwarfs

Ebusua Dwarfs would have a point to prove as to whether they want to survive relegation when they host 10th placed side Sekondi Hassacas at the Cape Coast sports stadium.

The Cape Coast club is  15th on the league with 17 points and would desperately be seeking a victory over the bad travelers Hassacas. Coach Yussif Basigi’s side has conceded 27 goals in seventeen matches, clearly evident of their weak defense

You don’t need a prophet to tell you a victory for New Edubiase over Liberty Professionals would be vital for a team that has battled in the last 4 years.

  1. Goal king race continues to thrill

Strikers like Yahaya Mohammed of Aduana Stars, Latif Blessing, Eric Bekoe, Sadick Adams will be very busy in their quest to increase their goals tally.

Yahaya Mohammed has netted 12 goals in 17 matches therefore a goal or two against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Accra sports stadium won’t be bad for the rejuvenated forward. Latif Blessing has caught the eye of many and against leaking New Edubiase he will fancy his chances of adding to his goals.

  1. The cry for fair officiating

Referee Joseph Lamptey

One thing that almost all club administrator will be hoping to embrace arguably will be fair officiating, something that has been their major concern in the ongoing GPL. If there should be something very essential to entertain the fans at the various league centers then clearly it would have to be fairness and unbiased officiating. Relegation threatened club , middle placed teams as well as the league contenders will all be happy to witness fair officiating.
