“I have not received GHAMRO royalties before ,” asserts Cwesi Oteng.

Cwesi Oteng, the gospel artist professionally known as Hermon Cyrus Kwesi Nhyira Oteng, recently shared surprising information about the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). Despite his years in the music scene, he revealed not having received any royalties.

He expressed frustration with GHAMRO’s operations, highlighting a lack of returns despite his significant contributions. In an interview with ghanaweekend.com, the ‘I Win’ artist disclosed that since his debut album ‘Blessed Are They’ in 2008, he hasn’t received royalties from GHAMRO.

Despite being registered, Oteng has no interest in receiving royalties, citing dysfunctional systems in Ghana. He explained that this led him to explore alternative avenues to sustain his music career. The revelation adds to the ongoing conversation about the need for reform within GHAMRO to ensure fair treatment and protect artists’ rights.
