Multiple award-winning dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah popularly known as Shatta Wale has disclosed that the music industry made him a monster.

In a conversation on Twitter Spaces with multiple award-winning TV presenter Serwaa Amihere, Shatta Wale said that he was a “Dada Bee” (a respectful person) before he started doing music.

However, he said that he started exhibiting aggressive behaviour in response to the false narratives being spread about him.

“Ghanaians have made me a monster…This is a Dada Bee boy who left his daddy’s house and did not know anything about insults. But when I came on the streets and started hustling, I met people teaching me respect.

But when my music popped up, well I had people saying things that they did not know about me. Serwaa, if someone calls you a drug addict, will you behave normally? I am not a drug addict.”

Wale said that he was bothered by the drug addict label because it was not true. He said that it was like someone coming to break down a house that he had built.

“The perception of me as a drug addict and a disrespectful individual created a kind of ‘monster’ within me,” he said.

Wale has on several occasions denied using drugs or alcohol. He said that he does not drink alcohol or smoke marijuana.

He said he quit smoking weed because he wanted to prove that his inspiration came from a higher source – his faith in God and his passion for dancehall music. He did acknowledge that he occasionally smokes cigarettes.
