I was jailed with crew during a movie shoot – Actor Chidi Mokeme

Popular Nollywood actor, Chidi Mokeme recently opened up about a troubling encounter with law enforcement, detailing how he and his team faced arrest and imprisonment due to a misunderstanding involving gun props.

Mokeme shed light on the challenges entertainers often face with the police during late-night movements and highlighted the persistent issue of having to justify their nighttime activities to law enforcement.

The incident unfolded as Mokeme and his crew were detained after being mistaken for carrying real firearms, underscoring the ongoing struggles faced by artists in the entertainment industry.

“I had a couple of brush-ins with the law. Back then, career-wise, entertainers always have brush-ins with the law. Why? Because first, we’re always moving at very awkward times of the night.

Either you’re just going to the gig or coming from the gig, but it always happens at very awkward times and what makes it very awkward is when they [police] ask you and you say you’re going to work.” He said

He continued, “That’s the problem, “Which work?”That’s always the problem, “Which work?” So you have to stop first, come down, because they’ll look at you and say “Which work?” then tell you to come down and explain yourself. So whether you’re alone or you’re two or you’re three, which works?

Chidi Mokeme is known for his roles in movies including ‘Saviour’, ‘Abuja Connection’, ‘Last Kobo’, ‘Back Drop’ and ‘Blood Battle’.
