John Paintsil arrested for attacking police commander

Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil is in the grips of the Madina Police for physically assaulting an officer and an investigator who were interrogating him over allegations that he stole his wife’s car.

Mr. Paintsil was being interviewed by the police over a complaint from his wife who said her car had been stolen by her husband. During the act of the interrogation the former defender is said to have been angered by the officers and punched the commander in the eye and pushed another officer to the floor.

Confirming the news to tv3network.com, the Greater Accra regional police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tenge said “John Paintsil in currently in police custody. He was being interrogated on a case of stealing reported by his wife but yesterday duirng the process of the interrogation he assaulted the district commander in the process.

“We hope to send him to court tommorow. The issue of the vehicle is still under investigation, where it is and all that. By close of the day we should be able to make some headway then we bring our case before a competent court of jurisdiction.”

Paintsil arrested in 2013

This is the second time the former Black Stars player has been in police grips. In 2013 he was also arrested for beating his wife and stabbing her in the eye after she accused him of cheating on her. The former Fulham player said the accusation surrounding him and his wife cost him his football career.

His latest activity with a football team was when he signed for South African based Maritzburg where he had played since 2014 on a two year deal.
