Ken Agyapong to be dragged to court over ‘sex’ comment on EC boss

Ken Agyapong 1Women’s group, “Progressive Women With Passion” have given the out-spoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, six days to either retract and apologize to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei, for alleging that the EC boss’ appointment was in exchange for sex or face them in court.

The group says such comments, insults and attitudes intimidate women who would have otherwise served the nation in various capacities.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) legislator over the weekend launched a scornful attack on Madam Charlotte Osei, alleging that she was appointed in exchange for sex.

The comment has attracted several public condemnations from well-meaning Ghanaians. Speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa today, the Leader of Progressive Women With Passion, Diana Nyankopa Daniels said “we are sending a strong warning to all politicians to be mindful of their comments on women in the country”.

She said what Maxwell Kofi Jumah said about Patricia Appiagyei in the name of politics was disgusting, adding, “the MP for Ablekuma West, Hon Ursula Owosu-Ekuful was beaten during a campaign. Why should it be so?”

Madam Daniels said the Progressive Women with Passion will not allow the EC boss herself to fight Ken Agyapong in court but they will rather take up the fight and sue the MP.

She said they are meeting over the issue and after the meeting they will write letters to the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, three former first ladies – Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor and Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills -, to solicit their support on the issue.
