A group of youth said to be National Democratic Congress members, on Thursday destroyed a printer being used for the ongoing vote transfer exercise at Suhum in Eastern Region, causing a disruption of the exercise.
The eight men, according to the officials at the district office Electoral Commission, stormed the premises where the exercise was taking place and seized a printer.
This was after the EC officials had turn away a boy who showed up to have his vote transferred. Officials say the boy failed to answer some basic required questions, thus raising suspicion.
District Director of the EC at Suhum, Worlanyo Mensah, told Onua FM Friday that officials told the boy they would have to investigate his case before his vote could be transferred.
According to Mr Worlanyo, few minutes after the boy left the premises, the group arrived in an NDC vehicle branded with the posters of President John Mahama and the parliamentary candidate in the area, Margaret Ansei.
He said the group demanded for the transfer of the vote of the boy but officials refused, something he said compelled them to seize the printer which was being used for the exercise.
“It took about two hours before they dump it in front of the office and left. We have checked the printer and it was not working,” he told Bright Asempa, host of Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwen
He added: “I know all the boys and I can make them out”.
The director said the matter has since been reported to the police but no arrest has not been made, adding “we have asked the police to provide protection from today to enable us continue the exercise”.
