Social Media Urges Nigerian Pastor, Paul Enenche, to Apologize Amid ‘BSc Law’ Degree Controversy

0

Users on social media platforms are urging Nigerian pastor, Paul Enenche, from Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja to apologize to a female church member named Anyim Veronica Nnenna.

She was publicly accused of giving a ‘fake testimony’ during a Sunday service, leading to her embarrassment and accusations of dishonesty.

On Sunday, April 14, a viral video captured a member taking the pulpit to share her achievement: graduating with a “Bachelor of Law” degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on Saturday, April 13. She proudly proclaimed herself as the first in her family to earn a degree, emphasizing that she attained a BSc in law.

“I’m the first graduate in my family. My siblings did not get to tertiary institutions due to some reasons. I was supposed to study Law for five years at the National Open University of Nigeria. However, I encountered some challenges that made me have an extra year,” she said.

During her testimony, Enenche interrupted, asserting that there’s no degree called “BSc in law,” challenging the validity of her claim. He also questioned her speaking ability, suggesting she didn’t sound like a law graduate. The pastor instructed her to return to her seat, cautioning that fabricating stories at the pulpit carries its own consequences.

He said: “We are not playing here, we are not faking anything here, when she started that testimony and she is talking law, I knew there was nothing like law, no matter how bad it is, it has not gotten to that level. She said she got a degree in law, what degree BSC?

“Is there any lawyer here who has a BSc in law?

“Lie testimony, come to stand on the altar to tell lies in the name of testimony, anyone who dares that does it at their detriment, comes to make it looks like the word of God is fake, that what God is doing is not real, you do it at the detriment of yourself,” he said.

Research conducted on the school’s website corroborates the existence of a “Bachelor of Law” program offered by the institution. Furthermore, social media users uncovered the woman’s Facebook page and photos confirming her graduation from NOUN.

Additionally, a graduation list from Saturday featured the woman’s name (Anyim Veronica Nnenna), graduating with an LLB in Law.

The video has ignited diverse responses on social media. Some are urging Enenche to apologize for his actions, while others support his stance. Those defending the pastor assert that the woman lacked the eloquence expected of a law graduate.

EFCC Reveals Investigation and Prosecution of Other Celebrities Following Bobrisky’s Conviction for Naira Abuse

0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria has announced that many celebrities are presently under investigation and will soon be prosecuted for abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.

This announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday, shortly after the conviction of popular crossdresser, Bobrisky, who was sentenced for the same offense on Friday. Emphasizing their unwavering commitment to justice, the commission vowed that no one found culpable will be spared, asserting that they “will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations, and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime.”

Following the arrest of Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okunneye, earlier this month, numerous Nigerians on social media platforms have tagged the EFCC in posts containing video clips showcasing alleged instances of naira abuse by other celebrities. In response, the EFCC acknowledged a notable increase in the circulation of both old and new video clips depicting naira abuse. A statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Sunday, revealed that certain celebrities, whose identities were withheld, had been invited for investigations and had offered valuable statements.

“Increasingly, members of the public are drawing the attention of the Commission to video recording of abuse of the Naira by Nigerians from all walks of life,” the statement said.

“These gestures amply demonstrate rising consciousness of the public to the sanctity of our national currency and the need for collaborative engagement to sustain the tempo.

“To this end, the Commission will always investigate and prosecute anyone involved in the abuse of the Naira. Old videos being exhumed and flying around for the attention of the Commission are noted as the Commission is sensitive to the fact that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the economy commenced operations on February 7, 2024. However, going forward, new videos of such infractions will be investigated and prosecuted.

“At the moment, the Commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse. Many of them have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter,”it added.

Background

The Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Bobrisky to six months in jail without the option of a fine for naira abuse. This ruling came after the controversial crossdresser admitted guilt to the alleged offenses. Bobrisky’s legal ordeal commenced following his earlier arrest by the EFCC, prompted by a viral video showing him spraying and flaunting wads of new naira notes at the premiere of the movie ‘Ajakaju’ on March 24. The EFCC detained Bobrisky for naira abuse during the movie premiere and other social events, subsequently arraigning him on April 5 at the Federal High Court in Lagos. During the court proceedings, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four charges. Following his plea, Judge Abimbola Awogboro convicted him and adjourned for sentencing. The sentencing was delivered on Friday, with Judge Awogboro emphasizing that Bobrisky’s punishment would serve as a lesson for others involved in naira abuse.

21 Girls Return with 34 Children: Report Marks 10-Year Anniversary of Chibok Abduction

0

On the solemn occasion of the 10th anniversary of the abduction of 276 girls from Chibok Girls Secondary School in Borno State, a damning report released over the weekend by the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF) unveils disturbing truths.

The report reveals that among the released girls, 21 returned with 34 children, highlighting the brutality of their captivity, which included sexual violence and coerced marriages. Additionally, 91 schoolgirls remain missing, while 48 parents of the abducted On victims have tragically passed away, leaving behind a legacy of widespread psychological trauma for survivors and their families.

During a virtual presentation of the report, Dr. Aisha Muhammad-Oyebode, CEO of the MMF, outlined 10 key recommendations urging collaboration between the Nigerian government and the international community. These recommendations include enhanced security measures, community empowerment programs, psychological support services, education initiatives, legal reforms, transparent communication, humanitarian aid, women’s empowerment programs, and early warning systems for security threats.

Dr. Muhammad-Oyebode emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “In the 10 years since the Chibok kidnapping caused global outrage, very little has changed on the ground in Nigeria, where kidnapping is still as prevalent, if not worse than a decade ago.

“As Nigeria’s kidnapping epidemic shows no signs of slowing, we urge the Nigerian authorities and the international community to take concrete steps to address the underlying drivers of conflict, extremism, and violence against women and girls, which include widespread poverty, instability, and a lack of economic opportunities.

“The report found that 91 out of the 276 schoolgirls remain unaccounted for. The report also revealed that 21 of the Chibok girls, who were released returned with 34 children, serving as a confirmation of the sexual violence and coerced marriages they endured while in captivity.

“Other key findings included: In 2014, 57 schoolgirls escaped by jumping off the Boko Haram trucks. Between 2016 and 2023, 128 girls have since been rescued, exchanged in deals with Boko Haram or found in countries, including neighbouring Cameroon, after escaping. One of the girls to be released opted out of the negotiations at the last minute, choosing to remain with her captors.

“Forty-eight parents of the abducted victims have died since the girls were kidnapped, with widespread psychological trauma for survivors and their families, leading to health issues and barriers to work and education. Three of those parents were killed by Boko Haram in subsequent attacks in 2014, 2016, and 2017, respectively.

“In February 2018, Boko Haram abducted over 100 schoolgirls in a town called Dapchi in a shocking attack that was worryingly similar to the Chibok kidnapping. Several cases of kidnapping and instability persist, with girls among those most at risk. The MMF’s report shares recommendations in efforts to address the root causes of the kidnapping and urges for international cooperation to urgently act to deliver solutions that put an end to the crisis.”

The CEO further called for a zero-tolerance policy, advocating for justice to be served regardless of the perpetrators’ power or connections.

Akuapem Poloo’s Fiery Response: “You Are Very Stupid”and Other Insults Directed at Critics

Actress and social media sensation, Rosemond Alade Brown, also known as Akuapem Poloo, has strongly rebuked her social media followers for voicing their opinions and criticizing her lifestyle.

Despite having recently returned from Mecca, where she performed the Safah and Marwa rituals, she has reverted to posting pictures of herself online wearing revealing clothing and engaging in online arguments, insulting others in the process.

In a recent Instagram video, she can be seen singing to Shatta Wale’s ‘On God’ while wearing a knee-length white dress with long sleeves. However, she opened the zipper in the front, revealing her cleavage and brassiere. Additionally, the lyrics of the song contain explicit language.

Some of her followers have expressed concern over her behavior, particularly regarding Islamic principles of modesty. They noted that Islam does not condone indecency, especially considering that Ramadan ended just days ago and Rosemond, also known as Haniya, should be basking in the spiritual fulfillment of her pilgrimage. Despite claiming to have adopted a more modest lifestyle since her return, her actions suggest otherwise.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz after her return from Mecca, she spoke about her transition to wearing abayas and covering up, indicating a change in her lifestyle. However, her behavior on social media seems to contradict her statements.

Some commentators have even accused her of hypocrisy, questioning her sincerity in practicing the religion given her apparent disregard for its principles.

Additionally, some followers pointed out a previous incident where she declined to hug a male customer who had bought honey from her, citing religious reasons (considered haram). She shared this incident herself on her page. Yet, she is now seen online dressed immodestly and singing lyrics deemed unholy, which has sparked criticism

Poloo responded to these criticisms by engaging with some comments, often using offensive language to express her disagreement.

Subsequently, a video emerged showing Davido in a vulnerable state, dressed in a two-piece outfit featuring strawberry imagery, as he knelt down, seemingly begging. This video further fueled the controversy.

Taking to social media, the model addressed the controversy in a 10-minute video. While admitting to mistakenly sharing the photo while intoxicated, she clarified that the video was initially shared by her with her girl group of three. However, during the backlash, her friend Bonita shared it to the wider public without her consent. She stressed that none of her friends had ever met or knew Davido. Despite this, she refused to disclose the circumstances surrounding the video or why Davido had sent it to her.

She shared that her friendship with Davido spanned 4 to 5 years, yet she had never inquired about his marital status, despite being aware of his children with other partners.

Emphasizing their platonic bond, she expressed, “He’s comfortable around me being in videos because we know the friendship we have and there’s nothing to hide.”

“Me and David are just friends and I style him time to time along with assisting with local bookings in the USA. That’s it, that’s all. We have a mutual respect for each other,” she added.

Additionally, she apologized on behalf of her friend for derogatory remarks and urged an end to misinformation.
