Rex Omar declares his readiness to take on a political appointment.

0

Music legend, Rex Owusu Marfo, known professionally as Rex Omar has expressed his readiness for a potential political appointment.

As a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the musician subtly expressed his keenness to contribute to the nation’s progress by embracing a political role.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Rex Omar affirmed his willingness to embrace the appointment if it aligns with his capabilities.

“I will accept a political appointment because now I think I am of age and I think if I am given any appointment that is within my capacity, I will be able to contribute positively to the development of this country,” he said.

When questioned about his interest in a position at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, he responded, “when we get to that road, we will cross it because at the end of the day all these positions are political appointments and so long as you are smart and intelligent and you know what is going on in this country, wherever they put you, you can deliver if you really want to.”

The “Abiba” hitmaker shared his thoughts on Ghana’s democracy, suggesting that revisiting the presidential term could enhance governance. He argued that the current four-year duration is insufficient for any government to make a substantial impact on the economy.

He emphasized that America’s practice of holding elections every four years is noteworthy. The crucial distinction arises from the fact that America boasts a democracy spanning over 200 years, whereas our democratic journey is still in its early stages.

He went on to propose that extending the presidential term to six years would provide ample time for the ruling government to deliver commendable performance.

“I think [the four years] is too much. I would have wished for six years in one term. Because if you are given six years you use one year or one and half years to set up your government. If four years, five years you are not able to do anything it means you can’t do anything. There is no need for you to go for a second term.

“The whole situation is, look at our scenario. After the election, the first year is now that the government is being formed, the appointments and all these things. By the time the government settles to actually start to roll out its program, you are getting to two years,” he opined.

Transport Fares Set to Increase by 30% Starting March 7

0

The Transport and Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana jointly announced a 30% increase in transport fares, effective March 7, 2024.

In a shared press release, both associations expressed disappointment in the government’s failure to address their concerns, particularly the absence of fare adjustments to counter rising operational costs.
The ongoing surge in fuel prices has substantially impacted drivers’ livelihoods, resulting in financial strains and operational challenges. Urging swift government dialogue, they set a March 6, 2024 deadline; failure to address concerns will lead to the implementation of proposed fare increments.

The complete statement is provided below:

Regional Chairmen of both the Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana are announcing our intention to consider a fare increment in response to the recent hike in fuel prices across the country.

As drivers’ associations, we expressed disappointment in the leadership for failing to address the concerns and implement fare adjustments to counterbalance the increased operational costs.

The continuous rise in fuel prices has had a significant impact on our livelihoods, leading to financial strains and hardships in maintaining our operations.

We would like to express our disappointment in our leadership, Despite the escalating costs of fuel, our leadership has not taken proactive measures to increase fares in line with market conditions.

This has prompted us Regional executives to consider fare adjustments as a necessary step to sustain our businesses.

The fare adjustments are essential to ensure the financial viability of the transportation sector and to maintain the quality of service provided to the public. The failure of the government to address this critical issue has left us with no choice but to consider fare increments as a means of coping with the escalating operational costs.

We are calling on the government and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with our leaders to address the challenges faced by our sector and to implement fare adjustments that reflect the current economic realities.

Failure to address these concerns by 6th March 2024 will leave us with no choice but to increase fares.
