Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has alleged that the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formed a Civil War Planning Committee whose duty is to formulate and design ways of throwing the country into civil war in the event the NPP lose the 2016 elections.

Koku Anyidoho’s ‘revelation’ followed comments reported to have been made by the Campaign Manager for the NPP to the effect that the party will announce the 2016 general election results.

According to the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, “We have picked up a strong signals that the NPP is up to something, they have formed a civil war planning committee led by Peter Mac Manu and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of their party Wontumi, you see, they have shown that they don’t have faith in the state institutions, the police, the military, would they have brought assassins to this country, they don’t.”

He made this known on Onua FM’s news and current affairs Program Ghana Dadwen on Tuesday, june 7.

Mr Mac Manu speaking to a group of supporters in Takoradi in the Western Region stated that the party would defy every authority in the country including the Inspector General of Police and the Electoral Commission to declare their own election results.

Contained in an audio clip played on Ghana Dadwen by host Bright Kwesi Asempa, the former Chairman of the NPP was heard saying: “In this election, the NPP will also declare our own results,” amid shouts and cheers from party supporters.

He was also heard saying: “The IGP cannot stop us. Whether you are the Electoral Commission, whether you are a peace or security officer, whether you are a polling agent, whether you are a chief, you cannot stop NPP from declaring results.”

But Koko Anyidoho said Peter Mac Manu’s rather unfortunate outburst should not be condemned alone but must be taken seriously since there are more to it than meets the eye.

He stressed that Mr. Mac Manu may have just exposed portion of ulterior motives being hatched by the NPP since there are clear signs that they will once again be rejected by the electorates in this year’s elections to solidify the title of Nana Ado Dankwah Akufo-Addo as a serial loser.

“They know they will lose. Where is their message, since they don’t have anything to tell Ghanaians in terms of policy, all they can do is to send people like Mac Manu to plot mayhem in event they lose, but they should not try, they will be smoked out and dealt with. We believe in our law enforcement agencies unlike them who trust in assassins.”

When pushed by host of the program to go by his party’s mantra of evidence-base strategy to substantiate his allegations, Koku only said “Asempa you know me, I don’t speak just like that, I know what I’m saying. We know what is going on and they cannot get away with it”.

The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC also called on the flagbearer of the NPP to come out and condemn the statements of his campaign manager if he does not support those views or it will be taken as he (Nana Addo) believes in lawlessness.

“If the leadership, the head I mean cannot whip his members in line then we must question that leader’s quality and commitment, but I know Nana Addo will not speak on this because he is a bad leader.”

When the producer reached Mr. Peter Mac Manu for his side of the issue, he declined to speak.

“Please I am in a meeting now I cannot speak to you, I am chairing a meeting at this moment, I’m sorry, thank you, I won’t speak,” he said.
