The counter-petition book opened by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) against a presidential pardon for ‘Montie 3’ has been stolen.
The petition book opened at the party’s headquarters in Accra was stolen on Tuesday, August 16.
According to the party’s Director of Communications, Paa Kow Ackon, four young men were at its headquarters to sign the petition, which is against a presidential pardon for the Montie FM presenter and two panellists jailed by the Supreme Court for contempt.
“After these young men left, two other young men came to the office to sign only for the Administrator to realize that the booklet was nowhere to be found,” a statement issued by Mr Ackon narrated.
“It is possible the young men who came to the party office to sign might have stolen the COUNTER PETITION BOOKLET.”
The case has been reported to the Nima Police Station.
PPP says it suspects its opponents for the crime.
The book is said to contain over 1,700 names, signatures and telephone numbers of people who are against freedom for Salifu Maase, the presenter, and Alistair Nelson and Godwin Gunn, the two panellists.
The three are serving four-month prison terms after a July 27 judgement pronounced them guilty.
The judgement has, however, been described as too harsh by their sympathisers, most of whom are members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A petition book was opened at Radio Gold and Montie FM and signed by government functionaries to get the president to invoke Article 72 for a pardon for the three. That petition is under consideration by the Council of State.
