Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaian Muslims to take the opportunity on the occasion of this year’s Eid-ul Adha to pray for “credible, fair and transparent elections”.

This he says will engender an outcome that would undoubtedly consolidate the “peace, unity and democracy of Ghana”.

These were contained in his Eid message on Monday, September 12.

“I wish all Muslims in Ghana and around the world, a joyful Eid ul-Adha celebration,” he stated.

“I pray that the spirit of sacrifice that inspired Prophet Ibrahim to accept God’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael will continue to animate our activities and dealings with one another as faithfuls of God and as citizens of Ghana.”

Muslims across the globe are marking the Eid with some in Mecca  observing the Hajj pilgrimage.

“The month of zhul-hijja, in which the Hajj and Eid activities take place, is one of Islam’s holiest months.

“May we all take advantage of this month to pray for the success of our country and to pledge to do all in our power to contribute to the forward movement of Ghana, including our ability to sacrifice for the progress of our motherland.”

The leader of the opposition party called for prayers “in this election year, for credible, fair and transparent elections whose peaceful outcome will further consolidate the peace, unity and democracy of Ghana”.

The celebration commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice to Allah.

“The Prophet Ibrahim is the father of all of us Christians, Jews and Muslims. I therefore pray for peace and unity between us as we reflect on the life of one of the most obedient servants of God.”
