Timaya Opens Up About Past Struggles with Drug Addiction

Nigerian music sensation, Timaya during a recent interview with Nigeria’s The Beat 99.9 FM, delved into the details of his past struggles with drug addiction.

He revealed that the introduction to drugs occurred in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown when he observed young boys in his house getting excited after consuming Molly.

Timaya described the experience as a challenging period, emphasizing the toll it took on both his personal and professional life. The artist expressed gratitude for overcoming this dark phase and credited his support system for helping him break free from the clutches of substance abuse.

He openly admitted to not being a saint, confessing to using Molly and narrating how he initially felt an overwhelming sense of happiness after taking it. Timaya shared the impact on his well-being, describing how the pursuit of this artificial happiness led to weight loss and disrupted his natural joy.

In his own words, he disclosed the extent of his drug use, stating, “When I took it, I did not understand myself. I was so happy that I dashed all the money in my pocket. So I wanted to just keep feeling like that. That was how I lost a lot of weight. I was not eating, I was just happy? How you go just want dey happy? You are supposed to first of all, be happy naturally. But when you now need substance to make you happy, it replaces the natural happiness. So you have to be buying happiness.”
