African artists up for honours at 2023 BET Awards

BET announces  “BET Awards” 2023  nominees, with two Nigerians, Burna Boy and Tems leading the nominations as African, counting at four and three nominations, respectively.

BET award and Grammy award winner, Burna Boy with an impressive four nominations in this year’s BET Awards, an artist who has achieved tremendous international acclaim and secured numerous national and international accolades. Grammy award winner, Tems also secured three nominations, while Wizkid, Asake, and Ayra Starr each received one nomination in various categories.

South African music favourites Pabi Cooper and K.O. and Swaziland-born Uncle Waffles, have made it to the list. K.O. and Uncle Waffles were both nominated in the Best International Act category, going against Burna Boy, Ella Mai, Stormzy, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Central Cee, and L7nnon.

Pabi Cooper has been nominated for the Viewers’ Choice Best International Act and will vie for the title against Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Asake, Ghanaian songwriter and producer Camidoh, a British girl group from London Flo, Cameroonian-American Afrobeats singer Libianca, artist Maureen, rapper MC Ryan, British singer-songwriter Raye, and well-known French rapper Werenoi.

The BET Awards, an event that celebrates black excellence, is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2023.
