Five (5) people have been shot and 21 others critically injured in the clash between residents of Donkokrom in the Eastern region in a scuffle between the police and residents of the area.

The youth of the township burnt a police station in the area and destroyed several other properties during the riot after the residents accused the police of conniving with robbers to terrorize their lives.

Eastern regional police Public Relations officer in an interview with Joy Fm said “Lance Corporal Solomon Musa has also been arrested so now by the grace of God we have been able to arrest the two. As I’m talking to you they have burnt down the police station, stolen the police personal effects, burnt down the vehicle that was used for the robbery and many other things.

“The rapid deployment force that was sent from the regional police office have also arrived at Tiase.”

About 30 police officers at the station and the barracks were overpowered by the residents and fled for their lives as they fired warning shots into the air to scare the angry residents, Onua 95.1FM can confirm.

First responders from the Ghana National Fire Service were prevented from having access to the station to extinguish the fire which is said to have been started with gallons of petrol.
