Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Sekondi-Takoradi are angry at government’s failure to tell Ghanaians the truth about the current loading shedding exercise.
Several parts of the country have been experiencing long hours of power outages popularly known as “Dumsor”.
Though government concedes the energy sector has challenges in terms of generation, it debunked claims that power is being rationed.
But the government’s stance has sharply been contested by some staff of the main power distributor – Electricity Company of Ghana.
Chairman of Western Regional Workers Union of ECG, Samuel Tetteh Agbetor told Connect FM’s William Benjamin Peters that they as technocrats are very much aware the country is in dumsor.
He therefore challenged government to be bold enough to allow ECG to announce the timetable for the ongoing load shedding.
Mr. Agbetor noted that the current situation is alarming and Ghanaians, especially business owners can only plan when there is a timetable.
“Truth is one and must be told as such,” he told Peters in Fante.
He warned that if the government persists to “tell lies” about the current power challenges to make the ECG look bad, the Union would be compelled to expose it.
He was emphatic even if the government gags management of the sector, they the workers would not keep mute over the issue.
Mr. Agbetor also discounted reports that the current power outages are due to faulty machines, noting that if that assumption is true the ECG would have come out to state the actual problem and plead with customers for time to fix it.
