The New Patriotic Party is asking the National Democratic Congress and its cronies to bow their heads in shame for “spewing lies” against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his verification in the just ended EC exhibition exercise.
It was alleged that Dr. Bawumia, who is the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, had induced EC officials in the Northern Region to verify him and other members of his family in his house, which is against the electoral rules.
Two officials of the EC were sacked over the issue and a three-member committee was set up by the Electoral Commission to investigate the matter. The committee’s report backed the dismissal of the two but was mute on the inducement and where Dr. Bawumia was verified.
The Walewale Constituency Secretary of NPP, Simon Ali believes the committee has vindicated Dr. Bawumia in the face of allegations that he claims were spearheaded by the NPP political rival, NDC.
“The key false accusations put out by the NDC included; that – Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP running mate, was verified at his residence and that he also gave two EC officers a sum of GHC 10,000.
“…Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was never verified in his home or family residence as was put out falsely by the NDC,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We are confident that the conclusions and recommendations of the three-member EC panel will bring a finality to this matter and call on the NDC, especially their officers who schemed and spewed these lies against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to do the honourable and bow their heads in shame.”
