Award-winning Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has unfollowed her alleged lover and colleague actor, Jerry Williams, on Instagram after the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) suspended him indefinitely for drug abuse.
The AGN announced Williams’ suspension in a statement on June 29, 2023. The statement said that Williams had been “under monitoring for his involvement in illicit substances since December last year” and that his behavior had become “a danger to himself and others.”
The statement continued, “The guild cannot, in good conscience, allow him to continue to associate with other actors on set, as this could put them at risk.”
Williams has not yet commented on his suspension. However, Etiko’s decision to unfollow him on Instagram has sparked speculation that she may be distancing herself from him.
This is not the first time that Williams has been in trouble with the AGN. In 2019, he was suspended for two weeks for “unprofessional conduct.”
It remains to be seen whether Williams will be able to return to acting after his suspension. However, his case has once again raised the issue of drug abuse in the Nigerian film industry.
The AGN has said that it is committed to “ensuring that the industry is a safe and healthy place for all actors.” However, it is clear that more needs to be done to address the issue of drug abuse.
