Funke Akindele Opens Up About Dealing with Depression After Her Mother’s Death

Renowned actress and producer Funke Akindele has courageously opened up about the profound pain she endured upon losing her beloved mother during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a heartfelt revelation, she expressed how her mother’s passing left her battling with depression, navigating through the depths of grief amidst the challenges of the global crisis.

Speaking in an Instagram Live session, Akindele shed light on the immense difficulty of coping with the loss of her mother, emphasizing the profound impact it had on her mental and emotional well-being. She shared the rawness of her experience, acknowledging the turbulent journey she embarked on while mourning the loss of her dear parent.

“I know it’s not easy to lose someone. I’ve lost my mom. Nobody knows what I went through, I went through a lot. I was depressed losing my mom. I went through a lot,” she revealed.

Addressing the accusations of neglect towards Jumoke Aderounmu, a former co-star from the renowned series “Jenifa’s Diary,” Funke Akindele reflected on her own challenges, stating, “…do not forget I’ve got my trying moments too. During covid my mom passed on . Politics I was backlashed , marriage, remember. Somebody now said ‘you’ll lose your children’ . I think that’s too much.

“… I sent a message to Jumoke’s brother. He saw it he didn’t reply…I feel so sorry. I tried (to reach out to her). Jide can testify.”

She called for compassion and urged the public to refrain from rushing to judgment based on incomplete information.
