“I watch a lot of TikTok videos” – Funke Akindele

Acclaimed Nigerian actress, director, and producer, Funke Akindele has revealed her penchant for watching TikTok videos, citing the platform’s abundance of talent as her motivation to scout individuals for her projects.

She made this revelation while addressing rumors and accusations, including claims of neglect towards actress Aderounmu during her final moments, during an Instagram Live session. These allegations surfaced when Aderounmu’s brother publicly criticized Akindele for mourning his sister’s death after allegedly ignoring her pleas for help during her illness.

“I watch a lot of TikTok videos because I want to discover talents. It’s my passion,” she stated.

Funke Akindele, also recognized as Jenifa, is a versatile personality in the Nigerian entertainment scene. Her journey began with roles in the sitcom “I Need to Know,” but it was her portrayal in “Jenifa” that earned her widespread acclaim, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009, propelling her to stardom.

Akindele starred in “Jenifa’s Diary,” earning the Best Actress in a Comedy award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She also became the second director to surpass a billion naira at the Nigerian box office, making her the highest-grossing Nigerian Director with over ₦2.9 billion. Additionally, she received a nomination as the running mate for the People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Lagos state governorship election.
