2018 World Cup hosts Russia inflicted a lone goal defeat on the Black Stars in an international friendly match played at the Lokomotiv Stadium on Tuesday.
The goal was scored in the 19th minute by FC Krasnodar’s Fedor Smolov, whose low drive in the penalty area went through Adam Kwarasey’s legs.
Coach Avram Grant fielded a relatively strong side against the Europeans with Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakasu, Afriyie Acquah and Jordan Ayew returning to the starting line-up.
Defender John Boye prevented the Russians from extending their lead with two goal-line clearances.
Atsu, however, came close to getting an equaliser but his effort hit the wood work.
Ghana XI: Adam Kwarasey, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Mubarak Wakaso (Alfred Duncan), Christian Atsu, Afriyie Acquah, Thomas Partey (Agyemang Badu), Jordan Ayew, Ben Acheampong (David Accam)
