Ghanaian Gospel musician, Patience Nyarko, has expressed disappointment in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for refusing to do the right thing after using her song at a delegates’ conference.
According to her, after the NPP used her song “Obi Nyane Me” in 2018 during a delegates’ conference in Koforidua, her management has tried all means to get the party to do the needful but all their efforts have been in vain.
Speaking with Halifax Ansah Addo on Okay FM’s “Best Entertainment” show, Patience Nyarko indicated that she was shocked to hear that the party had declared her song as the official song for its campaign when its leaders had not contacted her.
She said she had lost the respect she had for the NPP because of its actions, adding that she can’t tolerate it any longer.
“NPP people owe me already, so if you still associate my new single with them, I won’t like it. They used my hit song in 2018 at their rally in Koforidua without contacting me.
“Up till now, I’ve done all I can but there no better outcome. I have followed up to John Boadu but nothing has been done about it. I have written letters upon letters but no one is minding me
“So I won’t say this new song is a political song, it’s for God’s children, anyone can relate to it. You can’t declare someone’s song as an official song of a program without contacting the person. That’s wrong.
“I have had enough patience but we can’t continue doing the wrong thing. It really feels good for ‘big men’ in the party to use my song for such a big programme but the right thing must be done,” she said.
Socrate Safo, who is with the National Commission on Culture (NCC) and was also on the show, apologized to Patience Nyarko on the party’s behalf and promised to take the issue to the right quarters.
“It’s good you’ve had enough patience concerning this matter, it would be solved for you soon. I would channel it to the appropriate quarters for you, it would be communicated to party heads for the needful to be done so don’t worry,” he assured.
