Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, has landed a role in a film being directed by a US-based Ghanaian award-winning filmmaker, Akosua Adoma Owusu.

M.anifest, who’s one of Ghana’s best contemporary rappers, will be playing the role of a music supervisor in the film, which tells the story of a Nigerian woman’s journey of self-discovery.

The film, adapted from “On Monday of Last Week,” a short story by one of Nigeria’s prolific novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, also examines the complex politics of beauty standards.

“I am happy to announce I landed the role as Music Supervisor for the film,” M.anifest said in a statement released Saturday.

The rapper grabbed headlines last month with the release of a single, #GodMC, which was viewed as a dis of one of Ghana’s rappers, Sarkodie.

The track, which was under M.anisfest’s series he termed #ThursdayTreats, triggered a somewhat equally dis response from Sarkodie; something that generated a debate as to who among the two was the best rapper in Ghana.

Nowhere Cool

M.anifest went on weeks of break but is resuming his creative duties to wrap up on his upcoming project – Nowhere Cool- which he says is his “most ambitious project yet”.

“It’s been an adventuresome six weeks since I emerged out of creative hibernation and I’m very thrilled to share with you various new projects I am involved with!” he said in the statement.

The rapper says the Nowhere Cool album, which has taken him almost two years to complete “comes from a lifetime of realizations. This project has required me to dig into incredible depths of inspiration and I found new direction in which I am very pleased”.

Sugar

Last month, he released from his upcoming album, a single track titled ‘Sugar’, which features Nigeria’s Brymo.

M.anifest described his last month’s concert in Geneva as “a personal milestone” on the road to Nowhere Cool, noting “it was the first show I played new material from the upcoming album for two memorable hours”.
