Mamprobi: NPP, NDC battle over right to construct road

Mamporbi road scuffle

Political tension is building up at Mamprobi Alhaji in the Ablekuma South Constituency of the Greater Accra, over who has the right to construct about two-kilometer road which has been in deplorable state for decades.

Onua News gathered that uneasy tension in the constituency nearly blown up yesterday when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Jerry Ahmed, brought a grader to make the road more accessible to motorists.

According to residents, the National Democratic Congress for the constituency, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuje, who is also the Mayor of Accra, got furious over the decision by the NPP candidate to level the road.

He therefore ordered him to stop work on the road, insisting that Ahmed should have sought permission from him before embarking on the project.

This, resident said, generated a heated argument between the two candidates and their supporters.

A resident who does not want to be named told Onua News that on Wednesday morning, the Mayor quickly brought heavy duty machines to commence the grading of the road and possibly tarred it, heightening the tension there.

Interestingly, while Jerry Ahmed is fixing the streetlights in the area, the Mayor is also upgrading the road.
