FA Cup winners Medeama Sporting Club beat Ghana Premier League champions Ashanti Gold Sporting Club 1-0 on Sunday, February 7 to emerge winners of this year’s Super Cup.
An 87th minute goal by Bernard Ofori at the Accra Sports Stadium delivered the trophy for the Tarkwa-based side.
Protests by the Miners for the goal to be ruled offside were waved off by the referee, leading to Obuasi-based side abandoning the medal presentation ceremony at the stadium.
AshGold accused the referee and his assistants of giving them a raw deal after a goal by substitute Frederick Quayson minutes before Medeama’s was ruled offside.
The Super Cup is a curtain raiser to the start of the domestic league.
