President accepts Carlos Ahenkorah’s resignation after he breached COVID-19 protocols

President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah after he breached COVID-19 protocols.

Carlos Ahenkorah, who is the Member of Parliament for the Tema West constituency tested positive for COVID-19 but left self-isolation to take part in the NPP’s primaries and even visited some registration centers in his area.

Speaking with Asempa FM on Thursday, the Deputy Minister admitted that he knew he had tested positive for the virus but didn’t see anything wrong with visiting registration centers in his constituency.

He has been widely condemned for his actions and following calls from Ghanaians, Mr Ahenkorah has resigned from his position as the Deputy Trade and Industry Minister and his resignation has been accepted by President Akufo-Addo.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, the president is admonishing all his appointees to bear in mind that they are to provide leadership at all times, for adherence to the protocols that have been established to help the nation defeat COVID-19.

The statement further said Hon Carlos Ahenkorah has acted honorably in the circumstances by resigning his office.
