Funke Akindele Addresses Accusations Regarding Late ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ Cast Member, Jumoke

0

Renowned actress and producer, Funke Akindele, has broken her silence in the aftermath of the tragic passing of Jumoke Aderounmu, a former cast member of the popular series “Jenifa’s Diary.”

Akindele took to her Instagram Live to address the allegations of abandonment during Aderounmu’s final moments, which surfaced when Aderounmu’s brother publicly criticized Akindele for mourning his sister’s death after allegedly ignoring her pleas for help during her illness.

Expressing her dismay over the accusations, Akindele refuted claims of neglect, stating that she had reached out to Aderounmu’s colleague, Jide Awobona, to inquire about her well-being. According to Akindele, Awobona informed her that Aderounmu wished to be contacted for job opportunities.

Addressing the accusations directly, Akindele emphasized that she was unaware of Aderounmu’s illness until after her passing.

She disclosed having sent a message to Aderounmu’s brother upon learning of the allegations but receiving no response. Akindele also shared her own personal struggles, including the loss of her mother, marital challenges, and political experiences, emphasizing her own trying moments.

“…I reached out to the guy (the deceased’s brother) I said ‘oh I’m so sorry you lost your sister. I feel your pain. Nobody told me that your sister was sick’. Pascaline did not tell me anything. I don’t turn deaf ears to people that are in need that are next to me. I see that they wrote that I don’t help, I do help but I don’t make noise about helping; I don’t like it, I give but I hate it. I don’t like shouting about giving . Giving should be done privately,” she explained.

“The ones you see me do online: I was on TikTok, I have this family that they make me happy. They cook. I love the grassroot people so I watch their content a lot. You can see that in my movies . I reached out to them ‘oh I want to sponsor your education’ I give randomly (to) skit makers. I see people doing stuff and I support them . What more do you want me to do?

“I work hard. People will say ‘she doesn’t support her colleagues , she doesn’t attend events,” she recounted in tears.

She elaborated that her estate is situated far from the venues, emphasizing that by the time she drives to these locations, the events would have already ended, which is why she seldom attends them.

Reflecting on her own hardships, she shared her struggles, from the loss of her mother during the COVID-19 pandemic, to the challenges in her marriage. Expressing her regret, she mentioned reaching out to Jumoke’s brother, though without receiving a response, and emphasized her sincere attempts to offer support.

“I don’t beef any filmmaker, I do my thing … do not forget I’ve got my trying moments too. During covid my mom passed on . Politics, I was backlashed. Marriage, remember. Somebody now said ‘you’ll lose your children’ . I think that’s too much… I sent a message to Jumoke’s brother. He saw it he didn’t reply…I feel so sorry. I tried (to reach out to her). Jide can testify

Funke Akindele urged for compassion and understanding, cautioning against hasty judgments based on incomplete information

You may be required to disclose and prove source of wealth- BoG warns

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has issued a comprehensive directive urging all account holders to be prepared to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the sources of their wealth.

This directive is prompted by increasing concerns about the transparency and accountability of the country’s financial system. Sudden unexplained wealth raises suspicions of potential involvement in money laundering, making this message particularly important.

The BoG shared this guidance via a social media post as a component of a financial literacy campaign aimed at increasing awareness about money laundering and terrorist financing. The institution emphasized the significance of preserving the integrity of the financial system and fighting against unlawful financial activities such as money laundering and corruption. According to the BoG, individuals with bank accounts should be capable of substantiating the origins of their funds to adhere to anti-money laundering regulations and uphold the integrity of the banking sector.

Describing money laundering as “process whereby money obtained from unlawful activities such as drug trafficking and corruption is legitimized through complex transactions and process called ‘cleaning’ to hide its illegal source,” the central bank cautioned against both the underlying illegal activities and the act of money laundering itself.

“Beware! Both the illegal activities generating ‘dirty’ money that needs to be ‘washed or cleaned,’ and money laundering, which aims to legitimize the proceeds of these activities, are punishable by law,” the post emphasized.

Sarkodie should watch out for dangerous lyricists Amerado and Strongman, Fredyma warns

0

Music producer Fred Kyei Mensah recently made a bold statement, asserting that rap sensations Amerado and Strongman pose the most significant challenge to Sarkodie’s dominance in the rap scene.

Speaking on Accra FM’s Entertainment Capital, he warned that Sarkodie should be wary of these two artists, describing them as “poisonous cobras” with exceptional lyricism and dangerous skills. Fredyma emphasized that while Sarkodie excels in fast-paced rap, Amerado and Strongman surpass him in lyrical depth and conceptualization.

“Amerado and Strongman – Sarkodie should watch out for those two. They are poisonous cobras.

“I’ve carefully examined and decoded their lyricism and all. They are more than cobras – dangerous guys. Amerado and Strongman, Ghana should watch out for them.”

Fredyma noted that while Sarkodie’s strength lies in his fast-paced rap, Amerado and Strongman excel in crafting intricate lyrics, stating, “Their mastery of words and conceptualization is truly impressive. I enjoy listening to such artists – including Eno Barony and others.”

The sound engineer also shared that he listens to these artists to stimulate his creativity. Evaluating the nominees for the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ Best Rap Performance, Fredyma acknowledged Lyrical Joe’s talent, despite predominantly rapping in English, and commended Medikal’s captivating rap style. However, he stressed that Amerado and Strongman surpass them in terms of lyrical prowess.

Last year, Amerado claimed the Best Rap Performance title at the Ghana Music Awards. Six months later, he dropped his chart-topping track “Kwaku Ananse,” collaborated with Fameye (Peter) on a remix, and released “Abronoma”.

Strongman, often nominated but never winning Best Rap, continues to make his mark. Amerado’s storytelling and Strongman’s wordplay have solidified their status as promising rap artists.

Why Rema Walked Off Stage at Dreamville Festival

0

Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema walked off stage amid his performance at the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina.

While delivering his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, he abruptly halted due to technical difficulties with the sound system.

He advocated for African artists to receive the same level of sound quality as their Western counterparts on international stages. He stressed his role as a representative of Africa, insisting on perfect sound for every artist.

Rema paused his performance to address the issue directly, stating, “Hold on, there are too many sound issues. It’s messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this. I’m representing Africa, this is too messed up. If the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage… Africa is in the house and you are messing sh*t up?”

The star-studded two-day festival occurred on April 6th and 7th, showcasing a lineup that included J Cole, Nicki Minaj, Monica, Muni Long, Rema, and many more.

“No artist has ever sponsored the Ghana Music Awards” – George Quaye clarifies

0

Entertainment journalist and former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Charterhouse, George Quaye, has refuted claims made by gospel singer Jack Alolome regarding the sponsorship of Ghana Music Awards activities.

During a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, Jack asserted that securing a nomination at the Ghana Music Awards requires having connections with board members to advocate on their behalf. He emphasized instances where gospel musicians were bypassed for nominations and awards, despite the widespread popularity of their songs. Jack recounted his own experience, mentioning that even with a hit song, his producer had to advocate for his nomination, likely involving financial transactions.

He mentioned competing against Herty Borngreat for an award, suspecting she had stronger connections, potentially due to her and her husband’s sponsorship of the event. He stressed the necessity of insider connections in the nomination process for gospel musicians, underscoring the challenges faced without such relationships.

“With gospel musicians, when you release a song, no matter how well it performs, if you don’t have an insider, it will be difficult to get a nomination. It could be that the gospel artists who were nominated had insiders. When I released ‘Tomorrow By This Time’, it was very popular, even to this date. It was between myself and Herty Borngreat.

“The information I received was that the lady and her husband were sponsoring the event tour at the time. My producer lobbied, but later, I was told we didn’t get it because they [Herty Borngreat and her people] were sponsoring them.”

However, George Quaye vehemently refuted these accusations, stressing that no gospel musician has been overlooked during the nomination process. He also dismissed any suggestion that artists have ever funded the Ghana Music Awards. Quaye issued a direct challenge to Herty Borngreat and her husband, urging them to validate their alleged sponsorship.

He declared, ““I want to clarify something, and I am saying this on authority. No artist has ever sponsored the Ghana Music Awards. So, Herty Borngreat and her husband’s claims are not true. I am challenging them to come out and confirm if they did that.”

Additionally, Quaye acknowledged the existence of lobbying within the industry but maintained that artists have not been involved in sponsorship. He also recognized that addressing the lobbying issue is a challenge currently being addressed by the board members of the Ghana Music Awards.

I Have So Much to Say, But – Medikal cries out

0

Rapper Medikal has revealed that he has a lot weighing on his mind that he’s eager to share, but he’ll wait until after his London concert.

He is adamant about staying tight-lipped until the show is over. Lately, the artist appears to be going through a tough time, evident from his concerning social media posts that seem like a cry for help.

In a candid disclosure on X on Saturday, March 30, Medikal announced that actress Fella Makafui, his wife, is now his baby mother, and they’re currently co-parenting their daughter, Island Frimpong. In another post, he publicly stated that if anything were to happen to him, the people in his house, except his daughter, should be held responsible.

Fans have become accustomed to Medikal and Fella’s attention-grabbing tactics to promote his music, whether it is new tracks, albums, or concerts. Now, it is challenging to discern if it’s all for show or if he’s genuinely struggling.

“I have so many things on my mind to say, but since most people think it’s just for clout ahead of my London concert, I’ll speak out after the show!” he expressed in a post on X.
