Why Rema Walked Off Stage at Dreamville Festival

Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema walked off stage amid his performance at the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina.

While delivering his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, he abruptly halted due to technical difficulties with the sound system.

He advocated for African artists to receive the same level of sound quality as their Western counterparts on international stages. He stressed his role as a representative of Africa, insisting on perfect sound for every artist.

Rema paused his performance to address the issue directly, stating, “Hold on, there are too many sound issues. It’s messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this. I’m representing Africa, this is too messed up. If the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage… Africa is in the house and you are messing sh*t up?”

The star-studded two-day festival occurred on April 6th and 7th, showcasing a lineup that included J Cole, Nicki Minaj, Monica, Muni Long, Rema, and many more.
