No! Terrorists cannot win – Mahama declares

President John Mahama has called on the world not to cow itself into submission by acting upon the dictates of terrorists.

He observed that terrorists would wish for a disintegrated world where countries would shut their doors on other citizens.

Addressing the 71st UN General Assembly in New York on September 21, 2016, Ghana’s President underscored that terrorism is the “gravest threat to world peace and security today”.

The need, therefore, for concerted efforts to confront the threat of terrorism cannot be overemphasized, he indicated on Wednesday.president-john-mahama-at-un

President Mahama also recalled the effects of terrorist activities on Ghana’s neighbouring countries – Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, – and said countries including Ghana are all at risk.

Pointing to the imminent threat of terrorism on all, he noted, “But the solution is not to shut our doors to foreigners who may have genuine cause for visiting, for tourism, for business, for sanctuary as refugees.”

President Mahama mentioned that terrorist groups are bent on “instilling fear and panic in us” to achieve their aim of getting countries to close their borders to the rest of the world.

“No! We must not give in to them, the terrorists must not win, they cannot win, and they will not win,” he declared and reiterated that Ghana stands in solidarity with countries that have come under terrorist attacks.
