Once you’re using machines, things can fail – Prince David Osei defends ‘Dumsor’ under the NPP regime

Actor Prince David Osei has spoken out about the recent occasional power outages in Ghana, attributing the issue this time to faulty machinery.

Renowned for his active participation in the 2015 #DumsorMustStop campaign during the John Dramani Mahama administration, the actor openly acknowledged experiencing the recent power cuts, stating, “We all felt it.”

While speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on March 30, 2024, Osei compared the recent power outage in Toronto, Canada, to highlight the possibility of such disruptions even in developed nations. He stressed that the ongoing power outages in Ghana stemmed mainly from faulty equipment among power suppliers and distributors.

He stated, “The whole of downtown Toronto, Canada, went off recently. There was a blackout. So once you are dealing with equipment, you are dealing with machines, and things can fail.”

Additionally, he referred to a publication by the Electricity Company of Ghana, which claimed that the country boasted a stable national power supply and attributed outages to ‘localised faults.’

He continued, “That’s what it said. That if you are experiencing an outage in your area, call a certain number. It could be it’s a fault within your neighbourhood.”

While acknowledging the efforts made by the Electricity Company of Ghana to address the issue, Osei urged the company to adopt a proactive approach by informing affected citizens in advance of any potential outages.
