Mr Eazi’s multi-sensory art exhibition, ‘The Evil Genius,’ opens in Accra

0

Mr Eazi’s album is the inspiration behind the art exhibition Accra, Ghana.

Nigerian-born innovator and musician Oluwatosin ‘Mr Eazi’ Ajibade has added another accomplishment to his resume by opening his music and art exhibition experience, inspired by his new album “The Evil Genius”.

The 32-year-old art enthusiast curated this exhibition – celebrating love, freedom, happiness, and the themes from his album – with Gallery 1957 during Accra Cultural Week. Angelica Litta Modignani, the gallery manager, expressed her excitement about hosting the exhibition at Gallery 1957.

She stated, “We are thrilled to exhibit his powerful and thought-provoking collection to our audiences.”

The exhibition opened to the public on September 13, 2023, with a host of invited guests, including Azu Nwagbogu, Kwame Eric Goka, Phil Philips (Barbados High Commission), Daniel Osafo, Ameyaw Debrah, Gabby Otchere-Darko and many others in attendance.

Following its inaugural presentation in Accra, the exhibition will travel to London as part of 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair’s Special Projects from 12-15 October 2023 at Somerset House.

The exhibition features 16 pieces from 12 artists selected by Mr Eazi, representing eight African countries, including Dominique Zinkpè (Cotonou, Benin), Patricorel (Cotonou, Benin), Tesprit (Lomé, Togo), and Samuel Tete-Katchan (Accra, Ghana), who were present at the event. Other artists included are Tammy Sinclair (Abuja, Nigeria), Alpha ODH (Nairobi, Kenya), Chinaza Nkemka (Lagos, Nigeria), Edozie Anedu (Lagos, Nigeria), Elangwe Sesse (Cameroon), Ikechukwu Christian (Lagos, Nigeria), Kufa Makwavarara (Zimbabwe/South Africa), and Sandra Seghir (Dakar, Senegal)

Selecting visual collaborators was informal and instinctual for him, much like with his musical ones. “I just liked their art and reached out to them,” he notes. “We’d send them the song, they’d listen, and we’d have a call and talk about what everything means. I said, ‘I’m going to give them the freedom to go create.”

Mr Eazi worked on this project for over two years and sees it as an opportunity to share his vision with the world and spark important conversations about Contemporary African Art.

The exhibition is open to the public from 10 am to 7 pm, from September 14 to September 18.

Video: Empress Gifty indirecty insults her husband?

0

Gospel Musician Empress Gifty has stirred massive reactions online after allegedly shading her husband, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, a widely recognized politician and the former Member of Parliament for the Kpone Katamansu constituency.

According to Empress Gifty, having a partner who is a fool is very difficult in non-verbal communication.

Empress Gifty is seen in a video reacting to the voiceover by Prophet Kofi Oduro, the founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministry saying, “getting married to a foolish person is painful and sometimes suicidal.”

Though ‘Awiey3 Pa’ crooner didn’t directly mention her husband’s name, fans claim the shade is for him because he acts “childish” sometimes.

There are claims that most of Empress Gifty’s posts are shades to her own husband and her own life experiences.

However, there have been several rumours that Empress Gifty is really disappointed in her marriage and wishes to divorce but she is stuck because she always pretends to be enjoying her marriage and doesn’t want to divorce for the second time.

Your corset dress should have been accompanied by paramedics – Charlie Dior tells Selina Boateng

0

US-based Ghanaian fashion critic, Charlie Dior, shared his thoughts and analysis on Ghanaian gospel singer, Selina Boateng, corset outfit which has since stirred discussions on social media.

Selina Boateng was captured at one of the events he attended in a tight-fitted purple-laced Kente corset, with her waist snatched and seemed as though she was uncomfortable.

In the viral video, the plus-sized gospel singer had her upper section tacked up and her posture looked as though she was gasping for breath.

However, Charley, during his show on YouTube, has described the costume as a hot mess.

He said, Selina should have been accompanied by paramedics to the event she rocked the costume to and this is because of how she was ‘gasping for air’.

“Selina Boateng is a gospel musician. We do not know who styled her, we don’t know who did her makeup or did her hair. We don’t know who did this abomination of a corset. None of this seems to be working because it is a hot mess. I think that this look should have come with the paramedics. There should have been a doctor, nurse, or surgeon on sight with this corset because watching her made me uncomfortable. This gospel musician has been causing a lot of conversations with her looks and gym videos.

“I definitely knew that she was also uncomfortable. The first rule in fashion, in fact in everything is to be safe and Selina wasn’t safe. She did not think about her safety when she put this corset on. I know corsets are in fashion. Everywhere I turn, the brides are all in corsets but it doesn’t mean that everyone needs to be in there. The corset was nice but the way it was styled was wrong. It pushed all her inside up. It was bad. Very bad. Corset mu cadet! Eii! This is unacceptable!” she exclaimed.

DJ Vyrusky narrates why Ghanaian artistes are not able to fill O2 Arena

0

Ghanaian award-winning disc jockey and record producer, DJ Vyrusky has mentioned some of the reasons why Ghanaian artistes have not been able to fill the O2 Arena in the United Kingdom (UK).

He disclosed that most Ghanaian artistes fail to collaborate with foreign musicians to project themselves to the international community and it is a major stumbling block to their success on the global stage.

DJ Vyrusky attributed poor promotion of Ghanaian artistes as another hindrance that music promoters need to work on to help artistes sell out their concerts in foreign countries.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 which GhanaWeb monitored, on September 14, 2023, DJ Vyrusky narrated how Nigerian artistes are able to sell out concerts at the O2 arena while Ghanaian musicians struggle to attain similar feats.

“I think that it [Ghanaian artistes unable to fill O2 arena] has to do with promotion. So you can’t be in Ghana and you want to sell out a concert. You can’t be here not going to the United Kingdom (UK) to promote yourself as an artiste and you want to sell out a concert there,” he said.

“I have had a conversation with promoters outside when I travel, like Smith and the rest. You see what the Nigerians are doing now, Wizkid sold out O2 [arena] by first of all collaborating with a UK artiste when he first did it. Like Asake didn’t stay in Nigeria and sold out O2.”

DJ Vyrusky further indicated that event-organizing houses are not promoting Ghanaian artistes on the global stage which forms part of the reasons the musicians are not able to sell out concerts at the O2 Arena.

“Another thing nobody is talking about is the people they work with. Let’s say when you come to Ghana we have Charterhouse, EcoHouse right? EcoHouse has a clientele, we have people who go for a Tidal Rave.

“Regardless of who is coming to Tidal Rave, EcoHouse is going to have people going to Tidal Rave because they know the ‘event’ is dope. So it doesn’t depend on Sarkodie being booked for Tidal Rave [they will still do it],” said DJ Vyruski.

The conversation about Ghanaian artistes not being able to fill the O2 arena has been dominating discussions in the entertainment industry in recent times.

Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill: Sam George being sponsored by an American organization – Wanlov alleges

0

Ghanaian musician and LGBT rights activist Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, known by his stage name Wanlov the Kubolor has claimed that MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George is being sponsored by an American organization to advocate for anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Ghana.

Speaking on Nkonkonsa TV, Wanlov the Kubolor pointed out that Sam George had previously attended an international conference organized by the World Congress of Families (WCF), a group with evangelical affiliations that has been criticized for its anti-Islamic stance.

“These are a group of church, evangelical people, who are actually racist and they are anti-Islamic. And these are the group of people that support Sam George and others to push this bill in Ghana. It’s the same group. This is out there.

“He said it himself just two days ago. If you like just go and check online, he’s spoken about when he went there for a conference,” he said.

He insinuated a connection between this event and WCF’s alleged sponsorship.

Sam George has been a vocal opponent of same-sex activities and has been actively promoting an anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Ghana.

“This bill that we are looking at is the same literature as it’s being pushed in Nigeria, has been pushed in Uganda, has been pushed in Poland. It’s been pushed in Poland. Hungary it is the same literature.

“Sam George didn’t come up with this literature for this bill. It’s been drafted from outside. And if you go to all those countries where this is being pushed, the World Congress of Families have their hand in all those countries,” he alleged.

Wanlov’s allegations have raised questions about foreign influence in Ghana’s domestic legislation on LGBTQ+ rights.

While Sam George has not officially commented on or confirmed Wanlov’s claims, Wanlov is known for his strong support and sympathy towards the LGBTQ+ community, making his accusations particularly contentious.

The “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill” aims at criminalizing LGBTQ+ and related activities. The bill was introduced by a group of eight Members of Parliament, led by Samuel Nartey George, an NDC MP.

I don’t even have access to my children I raised for 15years – Reggie Zippy cries out

0

Popular UK-based Ghanaian musician, Reggie Zippy, has asked netizens to understand his plight before judging him for some decisions he has made lately.

Reggie has since been projected as the villain in the story of his divorce, following the magnitude of allegations leveled against him by his wife.

Reggie Zippy’s ex-wife, Edith Ward, said she filed for the divorce based on infidelity, lies, alcohol, and financial abuse among others.

She expressed that for the past two to three years, Reggie had been involved in an extramarital affair with a certain white lady.

She also stated that Reggie had stopped fulfilling his financial obligations to his family, a situation which compelled her to work around the clock just to make ends meet.

But the musician who has since been on a ranting spree and explaining his side of the story, has taken to social media to speak again.

He has asked his detractors not to judge him, adding that he has been through a lot of troubles in his past marriage, particularly, with respect to the custody of his kids.

Reggie said for a while now, a restraining order has prevented him access to his kids whom he had raised for the past fifteen years.

“You want to judge me? That’s alright but wait until you trying to contact your own children you’ve raised for 15 years and more lands you in police custody and any future attempts to contact them whether directly or indirectly could lead to your arrest and imprisonment. I am an innocent good father on bail without any criminal charges, DO YOU KNOW HOW THAT FEELS?

“Let it sink in and STOP JUDGING PEOPLE you know nothing about on social media. I dare you to walk a mile in my shoes and let me know how you get on. MY HEART IS PURE, MY MIND IS STRONG, MY SPIRIT IS UNBREAKABLE AND GOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON MY SIDE SO I FEAR NO MAN OR EVIL PLOTS AGAINST ME. ISAIAH 54:17,” he wrote as a caption to a post on Instagram.

Stream: Kwamz goes solo with afro-swing EP “Nature’s Symphony”

0

Known for pioneering the Afro-swing sound in the UK as one half of the dynamic duo Kwamz & Flava, Kelvin Laryea, popularly known as Kwamz, is confidently threading solo grounds with his new project.

“Nature’s Symphony,” a six-track EP showcasing his prowess in infusing African rhythms with contemporary sounds further establishes Kwamz’s versatility and mastery of modern Afrobeats.

Drawing deeply from his Ghanaian roots, Kwamz has consistently showcased his ability to bridge the gap between the Afrobeat genre and the UK’s eclectic urban soundscape.

His journey, which began with captivating freestyles and covers on social media, has culminated in hits that have not only climbed the charts but have also set the tone for the Afro-swing movement in the UK. Songs like “Wo Onane No,” “Takeover,” and “Shoo” stand testament to this.

“Nature’s Symphony” promises a rhythmic journey through themes of love, celebration, and self-expression. Standout tracks include “Bad Behavior” ft. JMANI, a heady mix of charisma and catchy lines like “Hennessy flavor, bad behavior. Lambo spacious, of course, they go hate us.”

The energetic “Confidence” ft. JMANI is bound to capture listeners, especially with lyrics like “daily I’ve been thinking me and you for vibe.” Kwamz concludes the EP with the assertive anthem “How I Want,” laying out his self-confidence with “I look and I dress how I want to, I talk and I walk how I want to.”

“Nature’s Symphony is a part of my experience of moving from the UK to the Netherlands and I made the EP in the woods, so there was pure nature and sounds.

The Symphony, which is how I came up with the title. The EP is the vibe and the energy of the move from the UK. ‘Confidence’ is about having the confidence in yourself and celebrating that” – KWAMZ.

Collaborations are central to the EP’s texture, with JMANI lending his vocals to five tracks and Dikoo delivering a special guest performance.

“Nature’s Symphony” is now available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms here: https://kwamz.lnk.to/NaturesSymphony
