Anti-LGBTQ bill passage will be an Easter gift to Ghanaians – Sam George

0

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has indicated that the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill could potentially be approved around the Easter season.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, George shared insights into the bill’s progress, stating, “They are nearly 60% through the consideration process. Hopefully, after another two weeks of parliamentary work upon resumption, the consideration phase should be completed. The third reading is essentially a procedural step; the bill is read, and then it is passed.”

George, a key proponent of the legislation, mentioned, “In fact, during the first session of the upcoming meeting, scheduled to run from the 6th of February to the end of March or early April, we believe that we should pass the bill before Easter. I think it is something we should give as an Easter gift from Parliament to the nation. So we would strive to work with the speaker and the committee chair.”

The bill aims to criminalize LGBTQ+ and associated activities, prohibit the promotion or advocacy for LGBTQ+ activities, and establish measures for the protection and assistance of individuals, especially children, affected by or accused of engaging in LGBTQ+ and related activities.

Among the proposed penalties, the bill seeks to make same-sex relationships, including oral and anal activities, punishable with imprisonment, carrying penalties ranging from five to 10 years. This controversial legislation has sparked heated debates in Ghana, with proponents emphasizing the protection of traditional values and opponents critiquing it as a violation of human rights.

As parliamentary proceedings on the bill unfold, the nation awaits the outcome with heightened attention and ongoing discussions.

The former Wutah member, aged 41, suggests that the rising divorce rates stem from marriage losing its true meaning and significance.
Speaking on Cape Coast’s Property FM, he expressed his view that people should focus on being friends and cultivating various levels of relationships, as he sees love as an internal emotion that can be extended to anything.

According to him, casual relationships tend to endure longer compared to marriages, which, he argues, have become more about dependency than personal growth.

“…but when people are in casual relationships they actually stay much longer than the people that get married,”MyNewsGh.com quotes him to have said.

Gospel artistes are mere mortals, calm down with the criticisms – Obaapa Christy

0

Gospel artiste, Obaapa Christy is urging Ghanaians to pray for gospel musicians instead of overly bashing them when they go wrong, emphasizing that preaching the word of God through music does not make gospel artistes angels. They are human too and are likely to make mistakes like everyone else.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, January 29, at her restaurant Obaapa Essen in Dansoman, Accra, she stated that chastising gospel musicians when they make mistakes is not the right approach.
She asserted, “There is no need saying all sorts of things to dampen their spirits. I sometimes hear not too good comments about gospel musicians when their issues come up, and they can be very disheartening.”
Continuing, she asked, “Inasmuch as we are gospel musicians, we are mere mortals and we are bound to make mistakes too. Some media persons and Ghanaians dwell on the negatives instead of focusing on the positives. What is the point in rejoicing over someone’s downfall?”

The Metease hitmaker also took the opportunity to advise her colleagues, stating, “I always say that when you place value on yourself, no event organiser will pay you whatever they want but rather give what is due you when you are hired to perform. I have done this for over 20 years for anyone to just pay me any amount. I am paid what I am due and that is because I am worth it.”

She is set to release her new single, “Ebesesa,” on Thursday, February 1. “Ebesesa,” which literally translates to ‘it will change’ in the Akan language, encourages listeners not to give up, especially in challenging times.
