‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ trailer eerily recreates deadly children’s games – Video

0

Excited for Season 2 of Squid Game? Well, too bad – there’s no release date in sight.

However, if you still want to satisfy your craving for death games, you can soon turn to Netflix’s reality show version of its most-watched show ever: Squid Game: The Challenge.

Aside from entirely missing the point of Squid Game and reportedly being a hazardous nightmare to film, Squid Game: The Challenge looks to meticulously recreate its fictional dystopian contest with real people. These green jumpsuit-wearing contestants clap and cheer as they step onto sets identical to those from Squid Game, like the Red Light, Green Light arena, or the bunkbed-filled common room where a giant plastic piggy bank full of $4.56 million hangs over everyone. Death games! Fun!

This trailer offers glimpses of The Challenge’s own take on said death games, which include Squid Game classics like marbles and hopscotch, as well as games new to this growing franchise like Battleship. The only thing missing is actual death. Although based on the use of fake blood squibs exploding when contestants are eliminated, it looks like Netflix is trying to simulate that too.

Squid Game: The Challenge hits Netflix on Nov. 22.

0

Ghanaian Filmmaker, Kwame Addae in collaboration with YA’se Otutu Pictures, Timeline Creative Studio, Timestamp Pictures and Aberempon Films are set to premiere their debut project titled “In Our Hearts” on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the YMCA Campus, Adabraka, Greater Accra, Ghana, at 6:00pm and its FREE and open to public to attend.

“In Our Hearts” is an experimental drama about an early 20-year-old Young Woman, who has to be given final rights by a Priest. In the process, the Young Woman enquires if accepting his rites would take her to her lost parents, to which the Priest responds negatively due to their beliefs. This makes the Young Woman reject the Priest’s final rites. This follows a struggle journey between the Priest and the Young Woman as she helps him understand her African belief system to which he was cynical about. His opinion about the barbarity and superstitious nature of her beliefs are countered by her explanations on how their belief system helps her people connect to nature through their belief in mother nature and teaches them love for the environment and the people of the world.

This film is set to begin a conversation around Ghanaian cinema and its portrayal of Ghanaian culture. It is aimed at reclaiming the narrative of African culture from the perspective of African filmmakers.

“Film is a powerful tool that has been used to positively and negatively impact the world. There are a lot of misconceptions and prejudices against the African continent from outsiders because we have been unable to document our stories and history. It is about time that we take our future into our own hands and begin to tell our own stories from our own lenses. Hopefully, in the next decade, we shall have a new wave of Ghanaian filmmakers impacting the industry and the world at large to drive the development of the country and continent.” – Kwame Addae (Writer & Director)

The preliminary development stage of “In Our Hearts” started in 2020 by Kwame Addae and it is now a creative audiovisual piece by a group of young Ghanaian filmmakers to impact the growing film industry, while projecting the image and culture of the country in a manner that is positive, contrary to contemporary portrayals. As the Ghanaian film industry faces the challenges of investment, some filmmakers allude those constant collaborations are the key to showcasing the talents of Ghanaian filmmakers to the world until the much-needed spotlight is shown on the industry.

Therefore, In Our Hearts seeks to present a unique perspective on storytelling and cinematic techniques. This is the director’s major directorial work and it serves to pave the way for subsequent works that will impact the African film industry.

The first screening of “In Our Hearts” written and directed by Kwame Addae will happen on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the YMCA Campus, Adabraka, Greater Accra, Ghana, at 6:00pm and attendance is FREE.

A musician who allegedly violently stamped his girlfriend’s right leg and kicked her in the genitals after discovering pictures of her with another man has appeared before an Adentan Circuit Court.

Benjamin Kobla Doamekpor allegedly fought his 23-year-old girlfriend over phone chats and pictures.

Police say the accused committed the act when the victim wanted to leave his house after spending some days with him at Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region.

The victim has a fractured leg and was in Plaster of Paris (POP) and is currently in pain in the genitals.

Doamekpor pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm.

He is expected to reappear on October 30, 2023.

Counsel for Doamekpor prayed for bail, saying his client was not a flight risk and was ready to pay the medical bills of the victim.

Defence counsel urged the court to admit Doamekpor to bail because he had a fixed place of abode.

Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo opposed the grant of bail, saying the Police had difficulties in reaching out to the accused to attend court.

According to the prosecution, the Police made several calls before the accused could appear in court.

It said although the accused person was on police enquiry bail, the Police would need him to assist in investigations.

The court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah obliged the prosecution’s prayer and remanded Doamekpor into Police custody.

The case as narrated by the prosecution is that the complainant is a businesswoman residing at Labadi and the accused person is a boyfriend to the younger sister of the complainant.

The prosecution said on October 10, 2023, at about 0900 hours, the complainant came to Adenta DOVVSU and reported that the victim had gone to visit the accused person at Amrahia.

The prosecution said the complainant told the Police that on October 1, 2023, she started receiving distress phone calls from the victim that the accused person had beaten her to the extent that she was in clutches with her right leg in POP after sustaining a fracture.

IMF to help Ghana deal with corruption

0

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has received Ghana’s request for technical assistance to deal with corruption.

Ghana’s move is in line with its commitments under the $3 billion IMF programme which Ghana is expected to receive a second tranche of $600 million in November this year.

The $3 billion IMF programme Ghana has signed on to is expected to tackle the country’s current economic woes among many other challenges.

The programme is also expected to promote transparency and fight corruption in Ghana.

As part of the programme, the Government of Ghana made a number of commitments to tackle corruption and improve transparency in its daily operations.

In line with this, Citi News has gathered authorities have requested an IMF technical assistance to conduct a governance corruption diagnostic assessment.

This will be used as input into the ongoing efforts to update the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan.

The government under the IMF programme is also expected to address weaknesses in the existing asset declaration system for public officials by enacting a new Conduct of Public Officers Act.

The IMF African Department Director, Abebe Aemro Selassie speaking during the Press briefing for the regional economic outlook for sub-Saharan Africa and Morocco during the IMF-World Bank meetings in Marrakech, Morocco, gave the latest on progress made so far by Ghana on the matter.

“On the governance diagnostic report, I think the request has been made [but] I’m not sure where we are in terms of being able to provide that, but as soon as we have the resources, we will do that. And it’s just a matter of time I believe.”

Meanwhile, the IMF says it will provide all that is needed to the creditors, so Ghana can get the second tranche of IMF cash and move the programme forward.

“Action is also needed from the creditor side and I have to tell you that, you know, whereas it took I think something like 9 months or more for Zambia to get the official creditor committee to be created, in Ghana’s case it was fairly rapid. So that’s what allowed us to go to the board and get the programme approved. And we’re very hopeful that the ongoing discussions among official creditors will also expeditiously allow us to conclude the upcoming review. Again the most recent Mission you know reached an agreement with the government on policies that are needed to tackle the most recent issues and also put in place an important budget for next year. So Ghana has done its fair share, and it’s for creditors to take steps, and we’re not going to be asking the government to do more adjustments because creditors haven’t asked either, so you know we will provide all the information necessary, so creditors can move to allow us to go to the board as soon as possible,” Abebe Aemro Selassie added.
