2023 Ghana Music Awards UK: Shatta Wale wins Artiste of the Year

0

On a crisp autumn night in London, the Royal Regency was transformed into a glittering palace of music, as the Ghana Music Awards UK celebrated the best and brightest of Ghanaian talent on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

Iconic Ghanaian Reggae, Dancehall/Afrobeats artist Shatta Wale won the prestigious Artist of the Year award. He beat out a strong field of nominees, including Black Sherif, Piesie Esther, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and King Promise.

He also won the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award beating stiff competition from Epixode, and Stonebwoy.

In recent years, the multiple-award-winning musician has made a concerted effort to expand his international reach.

Photo: Thomas Partey captures touching lips with his new white girlfriend

A new cosy photo of Asernal-Ghanaian Midfielder, Thomas Partey has surfaced online and received massive likes as captures the soccer star cooling off with his new girlfriend, Janine Jackson.

As seen in the circulating photos, Thomas Partey’s new girlfriend who is pregnant was rocking a nice bikini while seated on the player’s lap.

The newly loved birds were captured touching lips to subtly announce their fresh love life to the entire world.

Recall that last November, a Moroccan lady identified on Twitter as @deffonotchaur accused Thomas Partey of raping her.

According to her, the Ghanaian international raped her on June 19, 2021, when she was asleep during a holiday trip with him.

The Arsenal midfielder got away with the incident because the date she was raped when they were on holiday together was 10 days before UK law changed – allowing UK police forces jurisdiction over crimes committed outside the UK.

Meanwhile, this lady was Thomas Partey’s girlfriend when the said incident happened.

The lady’s accusations gained international recognition and subjected the player to severe scrutiny.

Fortunately for Thomas, he has been cleared off all the rape allegations and charges because the lady wasn’t able to provide enough evidence to cement her claims.

Thomas Partey’s girlfriend, Janine Mackson has announced that she and the Ghanaian international footballer are expecting a baby! See Photo below;

Black Sherif deserved VGMA Artiste of the Year award over Piesie Esther – Sonnie Badu

0

Renowned UK-based multiple award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer, Sonnie Badu, has stated that secular musician Black Sherif’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year accolade was well-deserved over his colleague gospel singer Peise Esther who was the main contending for the category.

According to him, Black Sherif’s exploits in the music industry over the course of the year made him a standout among the artistes.

Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM, the popular gospel crooner indicated that his colleague gospel musician, Piesie Esther did excellent work with her music career however, he believes it was Black Sherif’s time for the award considering how popular and impactful his songs fared in the country.

“I think it was an interesting rift. Piesie did excellent but it was good Black Sherif won it, no one should twist it[words]. But it was good for the industry, like I can sit down and say ‘You’ve done well but let’s allow this person to go.’ Why? Black sheriff just received an award in the US, and that’s what Ghana wants,” he said.

Sonnie Badu further explained that it does not matter whether the person winning an award is a gospel or secular musician, but what matters most is if the person is qualified enough to receive such an award.

He called for unity among players in the entertainment industry and urged them to support each other in the interest of the nation.

“If I’m part of the entertainment fraternity, everybody projects that guy. That’s what Nigerians do and that is so important now.

“So he [Black Sherif] has everything it takes to take Ghana to that place at this moment. And let’s not think the Stonebwoy’s and the Shatta Wale’s and all of that, they didn’t do anything. As a building block is not as important as the block in the middle. We all built it into a blacksmith.

“We have to be deliberate. If I was an entertainment minister, I’d look out for this guy and say ‘What do we need to do to project him in this season and maybe another season,” he said.

SMEs must devise pragmatic strategies to survive — Vodafone CEO

0

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, has advised small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to focus more on strategies that can best enable them to survive in these turbulent times.

She mentioned innovation, expansion and compliance as some of the strategies and noted that these among other things would also help enhance and reduce operational costs to sustain their businesses.

“In these turbulent times, survival has become difficult but important. We believe merely being good is no longer enough.

Businesses must fall on innovation, expansion and compliance,” she said.

Mrs Obo-Nai, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) 2023 Marketing Woman of the Year, who gave advice at the Vodafone Ghana Business Runway in Accra, said to truly excel and sustain greatness, businesses must focus on innovation.

“This is not just about the next technology or launching a product never seen before.

Innovation is also about doing the same thing differently and better so that you can compete with and compete effectively and also have some unique selling proposition which may not be that easy to replicate or actually in our case to help you to reduce your operational costs,” she added.

The event, held on the theme: “Good to Great with Vodafone: Innovate, Comply and Expand,” brought together experts in finance, brand innovation and tax compliance who equipped SMEs with some key strategies to help grow their businesses efficiently.

Mrs Obo-Nai said Vodafone was determined to continuously support SMEs for their growth, adding that for instance, September was set aside in Vodafone Ghana as the SME month.

Creating sustainable financing

In her presentation on Access to Sustainable Financing, the Regional Head of Commercial Banking for Anglophone West Africa Ecobank, Charlotte Amanquah, explained that SMEs were the engine of growth and very critical for the development of emerging economies such as Ghana’s.

However, the funding gap remains a challenge that hinders their growth.

She said with the right financing, SMEs that contribute about 70 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be able to grow and reach their full potential.

Mrs Amanquah said to create sustainable financing for SMEs, there was a need for collaboration, adding that “SMEs must also prepare their businesses enough to be able to access financing.”

Branding

For his part, the CEO of Dentsu Ghana, Andrew Ackah, said the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has many opportunities that SMEs can take advantage of.

He said to tap into the opportunities offered by AfCFTA and project their businesses even beyond the continent, SMEs must be their own storytellers and not depend on others to tell their stories.

“Building an innovative brand is an ongoing process. It requires continuous learning, experimentation and a commitment to push boundaries,” he said.

We used to drink alcohol but not anymore – Tagoe Sisters

0

Veteran Ghanaian gospel music duo, Lydia Dedei Yawson Nee Tagoe, and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe, popularly known as Tagoe Sisters, have disclosed that they used to take alcohol some time ago but have now ceased doing so.

According to them, the decision to halt taking alcohol stems from the fact that it makes one dehydrated and affects the body, which could negatively impact their health as well as their music career.

The gospel duo advised against excessive intake of alcohol as it could trigger trouble for an individual and acknowledged that it is not upright for Christians to take such drinks because it is not in alignment with biblical teachings.

Speaking in an interview with Joyprime, Tagoe sisters admitted that they are no longer into alcohol because of the repercussions on their music career.

“We have [taken alcohol] in the past. We stopped because It makes you dehydrated, you understand? So it doesn’t help your system. And we are growing too.

“So it’s not good for you to take one and then at the end of the day when to sing hallelujah, hallelujah somebody God bring another thing. And could lead you to forget about it [song], you are singing the first stanza and you go to the second stanza,” she said.

Tagoe Sisters further advised, “Some people it’s not good for some people as even doctors advise them to take something like red wine or something. But some people take it in excess and it becomes a trouble something.

“So for us, I would say red wine is good for others because if it is a problem for heart’s sake. But when you take alcohol, you behave like somebody who doesn’t have manners so it’s best to stay away.”
