The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) is asking President John Mahama to act swiftly on issues regarding their consolidated salaries just in the same manner he acted in granting the Montie 3 pardon.
Members of JUSAG have been accusing the government of dragging its feet in the implementation of their consolidated salaries as recommended by the Judicial Council in 2015, leading to a strike in May this year.
“We hope the President will take the advice and implement the recommendations by the Presidential Committee as he took on the Montie trio”, Alex Nartey, President of JUSAG told Onua FM Tuesday.
President Mahama in consultation with the Council of State on Monday granted a radio host and two of his panellist, who were sentenced to four-months in prison for contempt, a presidential pardon.
The pardon came barely three weeks after lawyers for the three – ….- presented a petition to President Mahama for consideration. The petition was immediately forwarded to the Council of State for its advice as per the constitution.
But JUSAG says President Mahama should give priority to its concerns just as like he did in the case of the Montie 3, saying that if he has adhered to the advice by the Council of State to free the Montie trio, he should also heed to the Presidential Committee report on their plights.
Mr Nartey said that almost three months after the Presidential Committee ended its work and its recommendations submitted to the government, nothing has been done about it since.
“We have submitted our report to the Presidential Committee Chairman but nothing has been done. We are also consulting to see what will come out of it because we submitted the report to the committee chairman, the Deputy Finance Minister, Ato Forson and I don’t know whether the report has been sent to the President or not”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nartey said members of the association are “consulting on what to do”.
