Richard Obiri, known by the showbiz name RichieO is a contemporary Gospel musician, born in the United States to Ghanaian-American parents. He spent his early years in the US, Uk and Ghana where he was raised.

An avid songwriter and lover of music, RichieO doubles as a Praise and Worship leader at Royal House Chapel, Maryland, USA, where he worships and has written songs for the church’s choir for various events.

Although born and bred in the diaspora, RichieO never lost touch with his root and was exposed to the African genre of music alongside Hip Hop, Reggae, RnB. Listening to the likes of Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Angelique Kidjo, among many others shaped him musically.

Inspired by the prominence of Afrobeat from Ghana and Nigeria becoming a global sensation, RichieO decided to follow the pace but the gospel way. He went on to record his debut single “Jara” which has become successful and enjoyed massive airplay in Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, and the US and has gone on to become the first gospel song to be played on the biggest African reality show, Big Brother Naija morning workouts sessions.

His love for fashion and Afrocentrism is adapted in his music videos, which quickly draw one’s attention while preaching the gospel through songs.
