The medical doctor of Nana Akufo-Addo has rejected media reports suggesting that the NPP flagbearer is seriously sick and has been battling an acute cancer for some time now.
Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi, who is also the former President of the Ghana Medical Association, stated emphatically that “Nana Addo is very fit”.
The African Watch magazine had reported that Nana Akufo Addo was diagnosed of prostate cancer in June 2013, with a high prostate –specific Antigen (PSA) count of 89.9, very much above the 3.72 upper range it should have been.
But Prof. Adu Gyamfi was utterly surprised by the magazine’s account, pointing out that when he last examined Akufo-Addo in June 2016 his Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA) count was “0.03 well below the 4 level and it is well, well, well below the 89.9 that was quoted in the article”
“And yes he doesn’t have any cancer,” he stressed in an interview on Multi TV’s Newsfile on Saturday.
He noted that someone whose Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA) count is way below what was mentioned by the magazine would not be able to go round the country to campaign as he is doing now.
Such a person would have an extreme difficulty in passing urine, Prof. Adu Gyamfi noted, adding the person would be required to “undergo dialysis to wash your blood of the impurities that can kill you about two to three times a week or undergo dialysis a day in an acute stage”.
“The article goes on to say he has acute renal problem, acute kidney injury and all that… now when you have acute renal failure usually you are unable to pass urine or minimal urine. Nana Addo drinks water freely wherever he goes and eats anything that is put before him. He can’t have any kidney problem and he does not,” Prof. Adu-Gyamfi emphasised.
The medical doctor who said he has been Akufo-Addo’s personal physician for about two years averred his mind to the need for doctors to keep medical records of patient confidential and revealed the difficulty in divulging medical records of the NPP flagbearer.
“It’s sad that I had to do this,” he pointed out but added that it was necessary he took that decision to correct a “misleading” report by the magazine.
“The flagbearer is very fit and healthy,” he emphasized.
