Ashanti police kill two suspected robbers

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following an exchange of fire with the police in Ashanti region.
The incident happened Thursday morning at Aputuogya near Kumasi.

The deceased suspects have been identified as Kwaku Yeboah and Michael Agyemang. They have been on the police wanted list for illegal possession of firearms.

Two AK 47 assault rifles, five magazines fully loaded of 30 rounds each, and 69 spare ammunitions making a total of 216 ammunitions were retrieved from a vehicle abandoned by the suspects at Boankra.

According to the Deputy Ashanti Region Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, the suspected armed robbers were arrested separately at Atwima Maakro and Abuakwa upon police intelligence.

Ashanti robbers deadThe suspects confessed owning the weapons that were retrieved from the abandoned vehicle at Boankra on the 23rd of June 2016. They also confessed of robbing and killing an Agric officer at Aputuogya.
The police this morning went out with the suspects to arrest their accomplice and retrieve their remaining weapons at their hideout.

Two locally made pistols and one pump action gun and some live catridges were retrieved at their hideout.
ACP Ampofo Duku stated that, as soon as the police retrieved those weapons they came under gun attack from unidentified persons.

The suspects also attempted to escape from custody leaving the police with no choice than to gun them down.
The police have also declared Issaka Jallo Dzani wanted for supplying armed robbers with weapons and also for masterminding the robbing and killing of an Agric officer, Joseph Baah Tweneboah at Aputuogya on the 31st May, 2016.

Security has been beefed up in Kumasi following recent killings and armed robber incidents.
The police, in attempts to clampdown criminals in the region, have conducted investigations leading to the arrest of several suspected armed robbers.
