Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government wants to consider the creative arts sector as a major growth pillar in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo this morning, Dr. Bawumia said government wants to focus more on the creative arts sector.
According to him, lots of jobs can be created within the space and that is why the government needs to invest in the sector.
“We indicated in our manifesto that the creative arts sector is a major pillar because there are so many talents in there so if we support them, it would help us.
“A lot of talents are there but having access to recording studios to record their songs have become a problem.
“The government is willing to work with the private sector to set up recording studios in major places like Tamale, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra where they can rent to record their songs,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia indicated that the Creative Arts Bill has gone through cabinet and he hoped it would get to Parliament when it resumes sitting in October so it can be passed.
The Bill, when passed will see the establishment of a Creative Arts Fund to help industry players.
Dr. Bawumia also indicated that government is considering building theatres in Tamale, Kumasi and Takoradi.
