EC ‘to allow’ voting without biometric verification despite ‘No Verification, No Vote’

The new logo is expected to be launched soon

The Electoral Commission says persons who encounter problems as regards their biometric details as part of the ongoing exhibition of the voters’ register will be granted a special status on December 7.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview with Onua FM, the Director of Communications at the Commission, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, said part of the challenges encountered in this year’s exhibition exercise, so far, is persons who are unable to be captured biometrically as happened during the 2012 general elections.

He said due to the problems encountered in some parts of the country during the last elections, mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the “No Verification No Vote” shall be in full force for the December 7 elections.

However, persons whose biometric details were not captured due to the nature of the thick layer of their fingers as a result of the nature of their work will be allowed to vote, according to Mr Dzakpasu.

Such persons will be verified by ‘Face Only’ at the Exhibition Centres so as not to go through the problem of verification during the general election.

The Communications Director insisted, however, that persons who shall shun the ongoing exhibition exercise but encounter difficulties in capturing their biometric details on election day shall not be given any chance to vote as happened in 2012.
