Fake teacher certificate scandal: Prosecute GES staff involved – GNAT

GNATThe Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) wants all those complicit in the alleged fake certificate scandal that has rocked Ghana’s educational sector to be arrested and prosecuted alongside the teachers.

The GNAT says there are obviously people who aided those teachers so far identified to have used fake certificates to get employed by the Ghana Education Service.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has handed over 186 teachers from two regions to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for their alleged use of fake certificates and impersonation.

One hundred and seventy-five of the affected teachers are from the Brong Ahafo Region, while the remaining 11 are from the Volta Region. But the GNAT says the teachers did not enter into the service without the connivance of staff of the Ghana Education Service hence those staff must also be fished out and prosecuted.

Speaking on the issue on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Wednesday morning, the General Secretary of GNAT, David Ofori Acheampong said “we are not surprised about the findings and we are happy about it”.

Mr. Ofori Acheampong said “the GES has the opportunity to scrutinize their certificates because they recruited them so if such people have been found, it should not be only teachers but those who helped to get the fake certificates must be included”.
