FDA Warns of Potential Canteen Closures

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned that it retains the authority to close canteens and food service units in public institutions lacking a valid Food Hygiene Permit.

To comply, unlicensed food service establishments are advised to secure the permit by February 29, 2024. Non-compliance may lead to regulatory actions, such as closures, fines, and potential criminal proceedings.
The FDA recommends that canteens in schools, hospitals, and corporate establishments undergo inspection and obtain licensing, stressing the use of licensed caterers for events and daily meals.

The warning aims to protect the public from disease transmission and potential outbreaks, emphasizing the importance of valid Food Hygiene Permits in vendor contracts. Institutions lacking permits are encouraged to promptly rectify their status by applying and facilitating food safety inspections.
