Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr. Edward Nasigre Mahama says he has kept a book of the country’s power crisis popularly called ‘dumsor’ since 1995.

According to a former Chief of Staff, the problem of dumsor did not start from 2012 but from Acheampong’s time and charged Ghanaians to keep an eye on what government is doing to resolve the crisis.

The re-emergence of the crisis  has taken about three years and has led to many businesses collapsing, dozens of job losses, even deaths.

However, the country has seen some stability in the power sector since the arrival of an emergency power barge from Turkey and some independent power producers (IPPs) which contribute to the national grid.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise on Friday, Dr. Mahama said government’s planning into the future of its people has been very poor and cited dumsor as an example, claiming he has a book of Ghana’s power crisis since 1995.

“Government should be planning into the future rather than wait for the problems to arise before we fire-fight it.

“I have been keeping the incidence of power-off since 1995 and I can show you the book,” he told host of Sunrise Winston Amoah.

“I knew that our power situation was getting worse and worse and worse because I have kept a book of it.

Answering to whether he had tallied it to date, he admitted he hadn’t tallied it but the records in the book are evident enough to back his claims.

“It has been getting worse and worse because nobody was planning that our population was growing and I can say the nation is still not planning for the population increase.”
