Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has firmly refused to apologize to Stonebwoy despite criticism for mocking Stonebwoy’s disability.
During the recent Sallahfest event, Shatta Wale criticized Stonebwoy for his absence, resorting to derogatory remarks, including mocking Stonebwoy’s limp.
The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) condemned Shatta Wale’s actions, expressing concern over their potential harm to the mentally well-being of the physically disabled community.
In a press release, the GSPD emphasized that disabilities are not punishments from God or indicators of character. They called for an apology from Shatta Wale and urged the removal of the offensive videos from social media platforms, citing Ghana’s Disability Act 715, which prohibits mocking or making derogatory comments about a person’s disability.
Despite the backlash, a fan of Shatta Wale, going by the Facebook name Don Shulace Degeneral, took to social media to further mock Stonebwoy and explicitly stated that Shatta should not apologize. Additionally, Degeneral asserted that persons with disabilities he knows are unkind.
“If shatta wale apologies to anyone it go pain me paa. Ofui apology to your mothers. If we are not talking doesn’t mean we don’t see what is going on. We are not talking cus we have come to realize that majority of Ghanaians are fools and they don’t want to change their mindset.
“So we just channel our energy on positivity buying and streaming shatta wale songs take note. Apakye stonebwoy has use this sympathy, sympathy brainwash Ghanaian.. imagine stonebwoy want kpai shatta wale cus of award. Not even a house or money just award imagine and shatta wale who wasn’t even holding a pen went to prison how!!!!!!!” He said.
Moreover, he pointed out instances where he believed Stonebwoy had insulted Shatta Wale and his fans, questioning whether those actions didn’t constitute mockery as well.
“Furthermore Eno here we dey stonebwoy go post some madman on his Snapchat mocking shatta wale in mouth? Eno be here we dey Stonebowy go reply a fan on twitter says all shatta wale fans be arm robbers? that one no be mockery?
“Is it not Stonebowy at his albums listening party said Anybody way dey called himself dancehall king his mothers all? You can go suck mother Chale any apakye I know bia their wicked I swear. You think God kolo Abi 😂😂😂 in the law of America if you get accident or injured you are disability is not mockery. Ojon,” he added.
Shatta Wale responded to the fan’s comments, rejecting the notion of apologizing, stating defiantly, “I won’t do no such nonsense!”
