The 2016 think-tanks’ transparency report has rated IMANI Center for Policy and Education, Center for Democratic Development (CDD) and Center for Policy Analysis (CPA) as not transparent with their sources of funding.
The Transparify 2016 report was released on Tuesday, June 28.
The three think-tanks together with Nigeria’s Center for the Study of Economies of Africa (CSEA) were the only African outfits ranked in the ‘Highly Opaque’ category.
The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) had the optimum five-star rating of ‘highly transparent’.
It was the only Ghanaian think-tank to get this rating, chalking second on the continent.
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) had a two-star rating, meaning it was not too open with its source of funding.
Transparify rates the extent to which think tanks publicly through their websites disclose who funds them with how much to do what work.
Transparify does not rate think tanks’ transparency about their expenditures, only about their income.
Transparify also does not rate the transparency of the funding sources themselves.
