To avoid a repeat of last election’s ’embarrassing’ moment, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has duly submitted her forms to contest the 2016 presidential election.
The party’s presidential nomination forms for the 2012 elections was rejected by the Electoral Commission, when the party made a last minute attempt to file at the close of nominations.
The EC had claimed the party failed to complete the nomination forms. But the anomalies detected by the EC were challenged by the NDP who had threatened to injunct the 2012 elections.
Having learnt their lesson, the NDP was able to submit the 2016 presidential nomination forms over 24 hours before nominations closes on Friday September 30.
Flanked by some executives of the party, Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings personally presented her forms to the chairperson of the commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
Meanwhile, Nana Konadu, like other potential candidates, has yet another hurdle to surmount before being accepted as a presidential candidate to contest the 2016 presidential race.
Though the forms were accepted, Mrs. Osei informed her that the forms would be vetted before she would be cleared to contest.
Nana Konadu told the media she is certain of having her face on the ballot paper for the December 7, presidential election.
Konadu’s NDP broke away from the governing National Democratic Congress in the run-up to the general elections in 2012. She had contested the flagbearship against the late president John Evans Atta Mills and lost.
