Afua Asantewaa’s disqualification was revealed by GWR on Twitter, prompting criticism from Ghanaians.. Shatta Wale criticized the negative reactions, particularly pointing out the lack of supportive messages and accused some of the critics of domestic violence.
“This shows how most of you beat your women at home… Shame you all. Look at how you guys are humiliating a woman who went through stress to just make us all happy in December… SMH. “Today dierrr she is a liar… Herrrrhhh Ghana 🇬🇭 When can you speak like this: ‘Betterluck next time Afua,’ ‘You made us proud Afua,’ ‘Ghana will support you again in your next attempt’? WHY? Is it hunger sickness or what? 🤣🤣 Aahhhh ba !!!! Weak witches that can’t fly 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣,” he said.
Renowned media personality Francis Doku recently shared his thoughts on Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s ambitious project, ‘Light up the streets with Asantewaa.’ Afua’s initiative aims to enhance community safety by fixing street lights, and she took to her social media accounts to seek donations, either in the form of money or lights.
In a heartfelt post, Afua emphasized the urgency of addressing the darkness in many communities, deeming it a dangerous situation that individuals could collectively resolve. She announced that the project would kick off on Friday, March 1, 2024, encouraging communities to contribute on their own or reach out to donate either street lights or cash. The call to action was underscored by her tagline, “LIGHT THE STREETS WITH AFUA ASANTEWAA, SAFETY FIRST,” posted on Facebook.
While acknowledging the merit of Afua’s project, Francis Doku playfully expressed concern that she might forget her MoMo (mobile money) PIN after receiving monetary contributions.
This originates from Afua Asantewaa’s recent acknowledgment of challenges, specifically her difficulty accessing her Guinness World Records Account. She stated that she couldn’t announce her disqualification because of her inability to log into her accounts. Despite her explanations, some individuals, including entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie, have cast doubt on her account, going as far as labeling her a liar.

Musician Fameye revealed that he once sought spiritual assistance, purchasing items like handkerchiefs and oil to propel his music career. Reflecting on this during a recent appearance on Hitz FM Day Break, he mentioned, “Back then, I had one person who told me to pay some pastors for oils and handkerchiefs. I later realized that I worked hard, and I didn’t think all these I had been doing paid off at that point.”
Despite obtaining these spiritual aids from various churches, Fameye expressed doubt about their efficacy, asserting that his success was a result of hard work and faith in God. He emphasized, “They were not working. How would I even know? Maybe, it’s now reflecting because it’s been a long time since I had gone there. Moreover, it’s only God that can come to my rescue.”
Notably, in August last year, Fameye delivered a crucial message to fellow musicians via a Facebook post, cautioning against managers who prioritize personal fame over the welfare of artists.
He advised against signing deals with such managers, describing them as ‘devils in the form of angels.’ “If you are an artiste and your manager wants to be a superstar more than you? Be careful, it’s either you signed a wrong deal or a Devil came in the form of an angel,”conveyed the post.
Musician Emmanuel Kofi Botchwey, widely known as Kwaw Kese, is urging the government to acknowledge and honor his two-decade-long contributions to the music industry. Reflecting on the transformation he believes he brought to the industry since his debut, Kwaw Kese emphasizes his role in its development and expresses a desire for official recognition.
In an interview on Hitz FM, he stated, “I’ve been in the game for 20 years. This is the 20th year, and all these 20 years, it’s been back-to-back bangers, performances. I feel good. I’ve paid my dues.” Kwaw Kese is calling for a national award, asserting that he deserves official recognition for elevating Ghanaian music. Despite acknowledging that historical figures like Kwame Nkrumah still face criticism, he hopes to receive acknowledgment for his contributions. He specifies, “There should be a nation award for me, for putting Ghana music on its toes. When we came into the music scene, it wasn’t the same, and when I came in, I changed everything, so I believe I deserve to be honored officially.” When questioned about the source of this honor, he pointedly mentioned, “it should be the government. Government should applaud my efforts.”
In 2015, Ghanaian musician Kwaw Kese, also known as Emmanuel Kofi Botchwey, faced arrest and subsequent conviction for marijuana possession. He is now contemplating seeking a significant $1 million in compensation, claiming that his arrest was unjust.
In a recent interview with Hitz FM, Kwaw Kese expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he received from the Ghana Police during the arrest.
He emphasized the lack of evidence supporting the allegations against him, stating, “They don’t have any video to prove it. They don’t have any picture to prove it.” Kwaw Kese believes that he was unfairly treated, especially when compared to the leniency shown to foreigners who violated the same law. He said, “Ghana police did not treat me right, and these are some of the things that I see that ‘no, the system has not been fair to me.'”
“And another foreign national comes to the country doing the same thing and this time we protect him with police. The same police that were rambo style arresting me, are rambo style protecting somebody. Guarding somebody to do the same thing which is on camera. It’s showing everywhere. And I think if that’s the case then it’s not fair . Ghana has not been fair to me,”he added.
He intends to pursue legal action against the Ghana Police, and he plans to consult with his lawyers to initiate the process. Kwaw Kese highlighted the impact of the arrest on his reputation and career, arguing that it tarnished his public image and restricted his ability to work freely in the music industry. He stated, “I’m requesting for $1M for Ghana police putting me through that. I’ll let my lawyers follow up with this, but I’m saying these things have dawned on me recently that Ghana has not been fair to me.”
Despite his contributions to Ghanaian music and the joy he brings to people, he feels that the system has not been fair to him. The artist revealed that the arrest had severe repercussions, and he is now seeking compensation for the alleged injustice he faced. Watch the interview here:
