‘I Have Failed’ in Passing the Hiplife Torch to the Next Generation – Okyeame Kwame

0

Okyeame Kwame, also known as the Rap Doctor, recently shared his thoughts on the Hiplife genre’s evolution. He expressed remorse, acknowledging that artists like himself failed to preserve the genre’s essence for the younger generation in Ghana.

During a conversation with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Okyeame Kwame admitted that Hiplife is “suffering,” contrary to those who believe it is entirely dead.

He emphasized the importance of investing in attracting the younger generation to carry the torch for Hiplife’s continuity. Okyeame Kwame revealed that he, along with other predecessors, didn’t realize the significance of passing on the genre’s legacy earlier in their careers.

“I think that for every genre to be able to stay alive, there must be a group of young people who are interested in carrying the torch to the next young generation and for hiplife we don’t have that.

“People like myself have failed the young generation completely, because when I took on the mantle of hiplife in 1996, the last thing I knew was anthropology, sociology or marketing. I didn’t know I was supposed to carry this thing upfront and give it to someone else,”he said.
He highlighted the Western model, where artists like Big Daddy Kane pass the torch to Jay Z, who then hands it over to the next generation, ensuring the genre’s vitality.

Moreover, Okyeame Kwame discussed his disloyalty to Okyeame Quophi. Despite their collaboration in the group Akyeame, he admitted to going solo and releasing songs independently. This introspective reflection sheds light on the challenges and missed opportunities in preserving and promoting Hiplife for future generations in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo has acceded to the calls of several NPP members and the general public by relieving Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of his duties.
The announcement, made on February 14, 2024, by the Director of Communication at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, coincides with Valentine’s Day, suggesting a potential compassionate gesture due to Ofori-Atta’s health issues.

Creative and Meaningful Ideas for a Special Valentine’s Day Celebration

0

Can you believe it? Some people didn’t realize today is February 13, meaning Valentine’s Day is almost here. And there are probably many others who haven’t realized it yet.

Now, let’s dive into the history of Valentine’s Day. It goes way back to Roman and Christian traditions and got its name from St. Valentine. Over time, it turned into a widely celebrated day that reminds us how important love and connections are.

Quick heads up: No anger here—just a suggestion to try something different instead of the usual dinner dates and one way gifts. By now, all hotels and eateries are booked! Don’t roll your eyes.

Since Valentine’s falls on a weekday this year, it’s a good idea to plan activities that won’t take up too much time.

Here are detailed but easy ideas for both guys and girls to make this year’s celebration special:

Sip and paint : Get some painting tools, enjoy a glass of red wine, and create art together. Talk about your relationship or make plans for the future.

Senses Gifts: Give gifts that involve each of the five senses.

  • For hearing: Make them a playlist or send them a jewelry store music ,Concert tickets, a record player, audiobooks, or a thoughtful voicemail.
  • For touch: A cozy blanket, massage oil, a beautiful robe, or a shaving kit.
  • For taste: Plan a homemade dinner, get a food basket of their favorite treats, or cook for them.
  • For smell: scented Candles, essential oils, their favorite perfume, beard oils, bath bombs, or scented salts.
  • For sight: Take them to a movie, get them books, a camera, sunglasses or plan a cozy movie night at home with snacks- not the usual Netflix and Chill where the tv rather watches while you make out. Sit through the movie and finish it.
  • Spa Day: Treat your partner to a spa date after work with massages and pampering. You can even do a couple’s treatment for an extra special time together.

Fuel Coupons: Give practical yet thoughtful fuel coupons. Every time they fill up, they’ll think of you.

Flower Surprise: Forget the idea that some people don’t like flowers. Send a beautiful bouquet to your partner’s workplace for a day-long smile.

Love Jar: Take a jar and write down reasons you love your partner. Add some sweets if you like, and give it to them as a heartfelt gift.

This Valentine’s Day, break away from the usual and create simple, thoughtful moments that make your relationship even more special.
Keep in mind that you can show your special someone they’re cherished without splurging. Opt for gifts within your budget. And for those planning intimate moments, be responsible and prioritize protection.
As for us singles, expect some playful online gift commentary. From plastic flowers to standout gifts, we’ll be chiming in “awwwn” and “God when?”

This is my treat to you. Yeah, don’t mention.
Have fun.

Dr. Olufunmilayo’s Advice: ‘If You Plan to Have Sex Tomorrow, Don’t Shave Today. Too Close. Too Risky.”

0

Valentine’s Day is almost here, a day to celebrate love. Some folks also see it as a day for intimacy, whether you’re married, dating, or just spontaneous.

Nigerian doctor Olufunmilayo shares advice, especially about shaving before intimate moments, focusing on safety.

In today’s talk, he says don’t shave right now; it’s too close to Valentine’s Day. If you shave and have sex tomorrow, tiny cuts could increase the risk of STDs and HIV, especially without protection.

But the advice doesn’t stop there. Since Valentine’s is on a weekday, some might wait for the weekend. For those planning a weekend Valentine’s, he strongly suggests shaving today to avoid risky surprises. Don’t wait until Friday morning; shaving late might cause tiny cuts and make it easy to catch an STD.

Shave today if your Valentine’s plans are for the weekend. Apply a red ribbon on Saturday and make it a personal delivery. But if your plan is for tomorrow, Dr. Olufunmilayo warns against shaving today—it’s too close and too risky. Somebody, take note!

Akofa Edjeani Discloses Losing Film Opportunity for Rejecting Advances from a Director

0

Celebrated Ghanaian actress and producer, Akofa Edjeani, shared a troubling incident from her career, highlighting the prevalence of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.
During the shooting of two consecutive movies, she agreed to lower her rates upon the executive producer’s request.
However, a Nigerian director, during a shoot in Kumasi, made inappropriate advances by inviting her to his room to “watch a movie.” Akofa firmly rejected the proposition, resulting in her exclusion from the second movie.

“I remember we were shooting somewhere after Kumasi, I think. Unfortunately, the producer was a Nigerian. We were going to shoot two movies back to back. So based on that, the executive producer had begged me to bring my rates down, that because we were doing two movies he would pay a certain amount, which reluctantly I agreed to.

“Now here is the director who asked me to come to his room. I said ‘come to your room and do what?’. He said ‘to watch a movie’. I said ‘watch what movie? I mean come on, whatever you want to tell me, I don’t need to come to your room’. Apparently, he wanted something else. I said ‘like seriously?’ Are you serious?

“I didn’t go to his room and guess what, that caused me the next movie. And when I asked the executive producer he said it was the director who was casting but I said ‘you were paying me this amount because we agreed on shooting two movies’. And he said there was nothing he could do about it because it was the director that did the casting,” she shared on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.

Despite facing such challenges, she emphasized her commitment to refusing unwarranted advances throughout her career, encouraging young women entering the industry to believe in their talents and resist such pressures.
